Question about HP Compaq Presario CQ50-210US Notebook

Try the laptop on an external monitor, if it works ok on that, the fault lies with the laptop screen
If it does not work on that, the fault is with the graphics chip on the laptop
If it was working ok then suddenly died, check to see if you can boot to safe mode (F8)
repost the results

Turn on the notebook and press F10 to get into BIOS screen. Even if the lines and the black spot appears then the issue is with the internal hardware of the notebook.
To check further connect an external monitor to the notebook and press Fn and F4 keys on the keyboard to get the display on external monitor. If the external monitor display is fine then the issue is with the LCD screen or else the issue is with the Video card of the notebook.
