Hi Jordan,

I assume you put in the sd card and nothing happens - no autoplay options. If you click start-computer, do you see the card reader listed with your drive letters? If not, you are probably missing the driver for the sd card reader.

Go to - service and support - drivers and downloads.

Follow the screens to find your laptop and you should see the driver there. Download it and install it and the problem should be solved.

Please let me know if this helps :)

    Hi Jordan,

Don't worry.......I'm here to help. So, when you put in the sd card, does anything happen? I would expect that a window would pop up, asking you what you would like to do with the new data source, ie: download pictures. If nothing happens, click start, then computer (my computer in xp). Now look on the left hand side of the window that pops up. You will see your c: drive, as well as d: (possibly your cd/dvd drive). Acer sometimes splits a hard drive into 2 partitions: c: (acer) and d: (data), but sometimes there is just one partition, labelled c: 'acer'. Is there another drive letter?, e: maybe? if so, then this is likely the sd card. If not, then the driver may be missing. A driver is software that tells windows what the card reader is, and how to use it.
Here's how to see if the proper driver is installed: For vista or windows 7, click start, then right-click on 'computer' - a menu will pop up. left-click on 'properties'. Now left-click on 'device manager'. Another window will pop up. This window shows all the hardware that windows has recognized. If you see any items with an exclamation mark beside them or if anything says'unknown device', then the driver is likely missing. To download the driver, you will need to know what version of windows you are running. To determine this, click start, right-click computer, or my computer and left-click on properties. This window will tell you what version of windows you are running: it is likely either windows vista business (32 bit) or xp professional (32 bit). Make note of your windows version. Now open your web browser and go to

where it says 'select your product', click on notebook, then travelmate, then scroll down to select travelmate 6493, then click 'confirm'. This will take you to the support page for your laptop. Now you need to select your version of windows. On the right side of the page near the top you will see "Operating System", and to the right of that, 'All Operating Systems'. Click the drop-down arrow to the right of 'all operating systems' and select your version of windows (either vista business 32 bit or xp professional 32 bit). Now you can download the driver. Scroll down to the section 'card reader driver'. Click on the green circle on the right side of the screen to download the driver. Save it to your hard drive. Once it is downloaded, open it (double-click on it) and then double-click on 'setup' and follow the instructions. This will install the software that windows needs to use the card reader. Once this is done, put in the sd card, and hopefully something will happen :) If you are not comfortable downloading and installing the driver, try to get help from a friendly local computer nerd. If nobody is available to help you, get back to me, and I can help some more. Please let me know how you make out.

This is a PDF file. The computer you are using now has Adobe Reader on it, which uses PDF files.
After you click on the file name (6493) it may take up to 30 seconds, before the first page comes up.
The file is downloading in the background.

Yes. TravelMate 6492, not TravelMate 6493. The RTC Battery is still in the same place.

It actually has wires coming from it, that end in a small white connector.

You SHOULD wear an ESD wrist strap, and have it's aligator clip attached to a good ground source.

Perhaps some of these Acer pictorial guides will also help,

Could I be wrong about the CMOS Battery location?

Look down in the Battery Compartment for the CMOS Battery, or in a small hidden panel down in the Battery Compartment.
Also look on the top of the motherboard, once the Palm Rest Cover (Top Cover) is removed.

Acer 6493 stop charging in 10 sec

Buy a new battery. The battery is dead. Batteries only have a useful life, then they have to be replaced. If the power cord works and allows you to use the laptop, then your battery is definitely bad if it does not charge or if it does not let you stay on the computer without shutting down after a short period.

I try to open acer crystal eye webcam but little box opens up that says Camera no found!

Firstly you need to establish wether or not your camera is being detected by your operating system.
To do this, (assuming you are using Windows) right click on 'My computer' and select 'hardware-device manager' from the drop-down menu. You can also select 'device manager' from within 'control panel'.
Check in your device manager to see if your camera is listed. It should be listed under 'sound, video & game controllers'. If your crystal eye is listed but has a yellow dot next to it, or if there is an 'unknown device' listed with a yellow dot next to it, it means that you will need to reinstall your webcam software.
Click on the following link to download you webcam driver if needed:

Pictures not loading to computer

It sounds like you don't have software on your PC that will recognize the camera when connected. I am going to recommend that you do not use the camera to upload photos. It is better practice to use external (SD) memory cards and remove them from the camera to upload. You can use a USB SD reader or purchase SD cards with a built-in USB interface. You should be able to see a new drive when connecting the SD card to your computer; then all you need to do is copy over the images. One advantage is that you will save camera battery while uploading because you dont need the camera at all. It also allows you to take images with you without taking the camera, i.e. school or work. I hope this helps...californiajones7889e54.jpg67432f4.jpg4db3d64.jpg
