Your only connected to the router and were not assigned an IP Address

try resetting the router (disconnect the power to it for a few minutes) next --be sure the wifi switch is enabled on the netbook---TRY IT NOW--- if still no luck then...---go to CONTROL PANEL>NETWORK CONNECTIONS--right click oin your wifi card and choose properties--highlight INTERNET PROTOCOL and choose properties and be sure "OPTAIN IP ADDRESS AUTOMATICALLY" is checked--Does the laptop "SEE" the router?
You will need your SSID to logon to the router(internet)

I forgot my password, so i can't set up my new laptop.

The default username for this is "admin" and the password is "password"

You could try those first.

If not then you'll need to reset the router by holding the little button on the back in for approx 30 seconds while the unit is powered on.

This will likely wipe your internet details and disconnect your internet, so if you need to do this make sure you know what your settings are first.

it appears you wireless card is seeing the router so just install the drivers and your set.

These are some reasons why your new Hp laptop can't connect through your Netgear Router is because your Router has a security that used a password to connect to your router or the ip address of your desktop and Dell laptop is already setup to the router to work with internet.

You can learn how to setup your router easily.

Netgear WGR814v2 does not see my ASUS 1005HA-P netbook, but the netbook sees the the Netgear wireless network but cannot connect .

To connect into your own Netgear router, you need to configure the wireless card with your router's wireless configuration settings, eg.the SSID and encryption settings. Check your router manual on how to configure the router or go to the Netgear WEB site to download this info.
To configure the Netgear router for wireless you need to connect a LAN cable from the laptop to the router and run your browser with the configuration IP address. for Netgear type the URL address ;-
http://192.168.0.1
the login = admin PW = password
Then configure the SSID and encryption, record this info so you can configure the wireless card with the same settings.

You can also connect to the Internet by using a LAN cable and plug it into the Netgear router without a wireless connection.

Airport says full connection to wireless router, not online tho

if it says you have a good connection, it means that you are connected to the router, though the router might not be connected to the internet. try powering off/on the router (leave off for 10sec.) to see if that corrects the internet connection issue.

Also, when it says that the connection is good, open a web browser and type 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 or 10.10.0.0 into the address bar (you can find this address by going to Network properties and looking at the Wireless settings. It should say "gateway" or "router". If you put that address in the browser it will pop up with the Netgear settings page if you have a good connection to the router. If so, then it's a problem with your router connecting to the internet and you might have to call your ISP/cable/phone company to get it fixed.

on your computer try to reinstall the device driver for wireless. try to connect the ethernet cable directly to the computer. if you have internet access, then most likely your netgear router needs to be reconfigured. you need to contact your internet service provider or router manufacturer for the reconfiguration of your router. mostly likely the security settings of the router needs to be changed.
