Most times when these type of problem arise its always because the screen light module is bad then if this happens you have to meet a laptop technician to remove the bad one and replace it with a new one

The symptom you encounter is usually caused by defective inverters for the LCD panel. These are driver modules that provide power to the backlight.

The repair needed is a very common case in notebook repair shops and the spare parts required are not super expensive. Ask for a preliminary analysis (small fee) and quotation on the full repair. My estimate is you'll get a full repair for under 100 US$, including spare parts, which is way cheaper than a full replacement of the LCD panel.

In fact, I had the same problem with an Acer laptop in 2005 and had it repaired by the Acer service station in Hong Kong for 65 US$, everything included.

SOURCE: laptop wont turn on

Are there any noises like its attempting to start up? Any beeping, fans running? If there are and the activitity lights are flashing, but just the monitor is off, than I would definatly say there is probably a bad connection between the motherboard, and monitor.

SOURCE: ibm thinkpad t43 backlight inverter issue

Did you say the the video output flickers on and off when you connect an external monitor to the video output. If the inverter is faulty this would not affect the video output and the external monitor would not flicker but if the external monitor flickers it would point to a video card problem.

Because your screen is broken and that can only be fixed if you have it replaced.

Monitor blinks on then turns off after computer boots up

It could be your LCD backlight giving you problems. When the image "goes off" shine a flashlight in the lower left hand corner of your screen. Look for the ?Start? button, if your backlight is not working you?ll see a faint ?start? button if you look closely. Depending on the monitor this is usually and economically repairable problem.
