Question about HP LaserJet P3005n Printer

2 Answers

Installing driver I don't have the instalation CD that came with the printer, so I downloaded two drivers from the hp web page: the HP LJP3005 PCL6 Driver and the HP LJP3005 PCL5 Driver (the web doesn't specify wich one is the proper). Both drivers don't have an automatic instalation program, so I installed both using the "add printer" option. The problem is that the non of the drivers work, sometimes it prints, but it takes like 5 minutes after the printing order has been given.

Hi jjcr_7 - What is the make/model of your printer? (There are several different variations of this printer model):
» HP LaserJet P3005 Printer
» HP LaserJet P3005d Printer
» HP LaserJet P3005dn Printer
» HP LaserJet P3005n Printer
» HP LaserJet P3005x Printer

If you are using Microsoft Windows XP - Please visit the link below and download the PCL6 Univerisal Printer Driver. After you install the printer using the add new printer feature and select the option to browse (find the folder you downloaded the driver to) and install the printer. You can also install just the software which you can use if necessary or you want the HP software on the machine for user friendly help in the event of an error or support from HP to diagnose your problems.
(Copy and paste this link into your browser)
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=1846089&prodTypeId=18972&prodSeriesId=1846088&swLang=8&taskId=135&swEnvOID=228

If you have already installed the software - uninstall the printer first then uninstall the software - delete the folder it creates in the Program files folder for HP. (Do this before installing just the printer with the driver)

Some times when you download the software from the websites they don't always install the correct printer or driver type. Often just downloading the driver from the page will be the best option.

How to Select the Correct Printer Driver

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodSeriesId=3377075&prodTypeId=18972&objectID=c00751649

You can review the above but likely you wil want to choose to install the HP PCL 6 printer driver.

Personally I would opt to follow the first choice below:

Windows Download and Installation Methods There are 2 primary recommended methods for a Windows driver installation from the web: A) Using a specific driver, printing system, or other driver bundle from the Web Suggested download steps are as follows:
  1. Go to your product's software download page (e.g. www.hp.com/go/clj4700_software), or click here to go to www.hp.com/. Select your country/language, and then select Software & Driver Downloads .
  2. Select your computer's Operating System.
  3. Identify your driver (e.g. HP Color LaserJet 4700 PCL6).
  4. Select the Download button corresponding to your identified driver.
  5. Select Run (or optionally, Save , and double-click the saved file) to download the file.
  6. Select Run to uncompress and begin the installation.
  7. Follow the on-screen instructions.
B) Using the Windows Add-Printer Wizard with a specific driver downloaded from the Web
  8. Uncheck the "Help me install this driver?? (check box).

Not so much a problem but got message printed out while trying to print a document. Unsupported Personality: UNKNOWN. Does this mean something I should be concerned with ??

An error page will print with the words "Unsupported Personality: PCL " in the upper left hand corner. The printers are host-based and do not support PCL printing; therefore, installing an alternate PCL5e or PCL6 printer driver will frequently generate this error condition. NOTE: This error condition occurs by design when an attempt to print with a PCL5e or PCL6 printer driver occurs and is NOT a bug within the product software. SOLUTION: Install the correct HP LaserJet Host-Based Printer Driver or the HP LaserJet printing system software for the product. These drivers are available for download from the HP web site. Click here to go to the HP web site drivers and downloads page. NOTE: There are several programs (such as accounting, invoicing, court documentation applications) that are 16 bit (DOS) programs with a 32 bit (Windows) overlay. Due to the nature of these applications and the associated Windows overlay, the errors may continue with the correct printer drivers. These applications do not typically support a host-based output device, and as such would not be supported in these environments.

I am trying to install an HP Laserjet P2015D printer in Windows Vista. When I run the setup from the installation CD, I get an error that says, "this software cannot be installed using 'run as...' command....

Your P2015D model has been around for awhile. Windows Vista is relatively new, therefore the installation CD may not have a driver for Vista. Try downloading a Vista driver from HP.com (free of charge). PCL6 is probably your best choice. Try the following link.

Lost installation disk

You can do the following
1. Go to www.hp.com (or .co.uk)
2. Go to Downloads and Drivers
3. Download the driver for your printer - if you cannot find, the Universal HP Printer Driver will also work
4. Once downloaded, run the file and point the extraction path to somewhere you can later find e.g. C:hp
5. Click on Start > Printers and Faxes
6. Click on Add Printer
7. Select locally attached (probably come up as usb or LPT depending on which you have)
8. Select you have the driver
9. Browse to where you extracted the download e.g. C:HP
10. If drivers contains more than model model/version it will then appear and ask you to pick the specific one
11. Pick it and then next and Finish

Thats is it!

Also on the HP page there will be other printer utilities and tools, but just go for the PCL or PCL6 driver - should be 7-20MB big - you don;t need all the extra rubbish.

Hope this helps.
