That is most likely because the OS had become corrupt and it will not start up.
A system disk is required to restore the system.

How to install os to a new pc with freedos

Alright, here is what you need to do. Go to the BIOS. When you turn on your PC, it first shows the manufactures' message. Under the logo there should be a instruction on how to open the BIOS. Press the button that opens it. Go to the tab boot, and select the CD/DVD drive as boot device 1#. Go to the tab exit, and select "Save settings and exit". Insert the CD/DVD with the Operating System of your choice. If FreeDOS already booted, reboot the PC with the disc inserted. Wait untill a line saying "Boot from CD" (It could be anything near this) and press any key. Now follow the steps of the installation. If it doesn't say this, it might is not a bootable CD/DVD. Purchased disc with Windows should boot. If not, bring it back. I hope this helped, and if the problem persists, don't hesitate to come back to FixYa. Thanks, and have a great day.

My Aspire One D250-1165 can not boot. I was asked to insert boot disc and press any key. The problem is i lost the disc that came with it. what do i do now? and how can you help?

You could contact the Acer customer care and ask them for a new boot disc. Of course, that will cost.

Or, if you can arrange for it, just take any windows CD, boot into it and perform startup repairs. that should solve any boot loader issues.

Also, most laptops these days come with some sort of recovery drive in them already. isn't there anything like "Press F5 for recovery" or some similar message. Going into that and performing the startup repairs should do just fine. then, you can create some recovery CDs or DVDs for such a rescue the next time.

Failure to bootup

This message means that the computer could not find the MBR (master boot record) & the most likely cause is a hard disk failure. To prove this obtain an installation disk of an operationg system, say Windows XP, place the disk in the drive, and while its booting up, press F2. From the menu set the boot order to... 1. CD rom drive. Save and exit. The machine will now begin to install the operating system to your hard drive. If you get the same message again, you have a hard drive failure and it will have to be rep-laced.
