Question about MP3 & Digital Media Players

I have a creative vision m 30gb and it is working fine the problem I have is that the "creative mediasource 5 organiser" will not open. when i double click the icon the program starts to run but before the music library loads an error message pops up saying "creative mediasource 5 has encountered a problem and needs to close" it then asks me if i want to report the problem to microsoft which i do. I then have to go to the task manager to close mediasource as it is not responding. The strange thing is if I go to my documents "my Music" and play any of the tracks/albums listed there the player part of mediasource 5 works. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me resolve this as its driving me potty!!

    Thankyou for the suggestions, unfortunately they haven't worked. The problem still remains. All aspects are the same.

    I have been to the creative website and downloaded the latest version which was released on 22 dec and also the update program for mediasource 5.

    Still no joy I'm afraid.

    I am getting another message after I close mediasource through the task manager now. It says " Dr Watson postmortem debugger has encountered a problem and has had to close" Send report to microsoft.

    Which of course I do.

    I have been using this system for the last 13 months since i bought the player with no problems. The problem started about a month ago when it would close after doing work on music tracks, but it always allowed me to re-open mediasource 5 after it closed, but now it wont.

You perform this ...

go to
control panel >(classic view) system> advanced

now click on the error reporting
now click disable error reporting option ..

after this only if any critical errors happens means it will be displayed that s all .......

    if you still persist the same problem then there will some problem with your OS just reinstall it ...
    due to some virus attack some system files have became corrupted ..
    so you are facing this problem ...
    just try reinstalling the OS you will not get the error ...........

Everything they have suggested is correct except for one thing. Registry entries. When you uninstall creative source media player before re-installing you have to manually delete the registry entries. Click on start->Run->Type "regedit". Then click one edit->find and type in creative. Delete the entry that is listed as media player and then press f3. Repeat the procedure until you get the message "Finished searching through the registry". Then install the software and it will work like it should.. Try it and let me know if it worked so that we can follow up on this.

It seems like incompatibily problem. Check if it is compatible with your operating system.

    I think you must follow eagle338's solution. Be carefull to delete correct registry entry.

Hey IAN,
Have you consider that it might be your computer? Usually with this kind of issue its best to uninstall and reinstall its driver. and if it didnt help at all lets try this. Have you tried reformatting your MP3 for possible software corruption? I think you need to uninstall then reinstall the creative mediasource 5 organiser because of that error...

Try reinstalling the program, first uninstall it download the newest version and install it and see if that solves it.

    Im curious could you possibly do a system restore a month back before the problem started?



    allthought I don't trust system restore and it may mess up your computer.

somewhere on it there is a tiny hole, it's a re-set button, take a pin and re-set the unit, you wont lose any data and it should work fine then

Problem transferring MP3s to Zen Vision 30GB


I have a Zen Vision M 30G, and this is what worked for me.(Widows XP home Edition. First you're going to want to transfer all your files back to your PC to back them up. I've found that even though you can't transfer from your PC to Zen, you can transfer from Zen to PC. Connect your player, and after your Pc recognizes it go to My Computer>click on your player, it should show up as "storage media.">then you right click on it, then select "reformat." A warning should pop notifing that you will lose all you data. Click yes, It should take less than a minute to complete. So essentially you have just wiped your Mp3 player's hard drive clean. Now transfer all your backed up files back to your player.

Install Creative Mediasource Organizer. Locate videofiles through this and transfer. You will be told if the file is supported or not. If not, you can encode it so it will work.

Whirring noise = bad, probably needs to be replaced, BUT:
Uninstall everything from your PC, reboot, reinstall driver and the Explorer (I do not use MediaSource, only the Explorer).

If it didn't work out follow these steps:

1. Uninstall Creative Media Source and all related software.
2. Install the driver. In the installation CD the driver is usually in \Drivers\English
3. Turn on the Nomad an connect it to the PC.
4. Install MediaSource(the program requires that you have the nomad connected while installing)
5. Install MediaSource plugin
6. Try transferring files.

If you?re still running into problem know that there are other programs capable of handling MediaSource?s functions, such as - Portable Audio Devices Power Toy , NomadSync, Real player, and there?s also a Zen plugin for the Winamp.

Creative Zen Troubles


Try this: disconnect the player from the computer, turn it off, hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard.
