This would depend on how long the problem has been going on . a normal defrost cycle is about 28 min . but if cycle has not been working and the ice is 3 to 4 in thick it will take you with a hair dryer ut 1.5 hr's to get the ice out and then you need to correct the problem or you will have to do this next week . mm hope this helped feed back pls .

Can you tell me why please?

All the big cooling happens inside freezer compartment. Freezer gives little cool air to fridge compartment. Now when the vent blocks that little cold air cannot go into fridge compartment. Thus your freezer works good but not fridge compartment. Milk goes bad but frozen meet keeps good.....

Vent freeze up either due to defrost problemt, defrost drain line problem, Evaporator fan problem or even can be your damper motor not opening due to unit failure or frozen damper door.

The bottom of my freezer produces a layer of ice....water leaking from ice maker?

No its the drain that's frozen....take the back panel off inside the freezer side....look down and you'll see a hole....that's your drain for the defrost....anyway heat a glass of water for 3 min in microwave....pour Down drain continue until drain is clear...

Hello, actually my Maytag refrigerator is 22 cu ft. bottom -mount freezer. I'm pretty sure my freezer is the frost less kind but it has started getting frost and almost snow in it. I was just wondering...

Hello
Any freezer will accumulate frost on walls etc, eventually.Mostly in the summer when there's more moist air and door openings. The fan is supposed draw all moisture to the evaporator coils so you won[t get the frost , So if it is excessive check to make sure refridgerator compartment is keeping cold.If it seems warm to you,you probably have defrost issues.
If ok ,then check door gaskets for air leaks ,(excess moist air gets in).Or excess food ,especially at bottom might block some air flow.

regards

Defrost problem. Most likely the defrost heater or defrost thermostat.

Heat strip not working in freezer

Hi,
What they are talking about is the defrost coil...
The most common problem though is the defrost timer fails....
Here are a couple of tips that I wrote that will help you figure this out...

Frozen vents from freezer to fridge

you most likely have a defrost problem.or a clogged drain.you need to check your defrost heater defrost timer and thermostat.if ice is formed over drain then you can unclog drain with hot water.you will see when it is unclogged, water will run down drain without running over into bottom of freezer.

Freezer not keeping items completly frozen

thius suggests the defrost system not working and the defrost drain blocked. take off the back panel inside the freezer, melt off excessive ice and free the drain at the bottom with hot water and patience
