Question about Computers & Internet

Open Question

I was given a Centrios 13 in 1 Card Reader as a gift a couple of years ago. I have successfully read SD cards on it. However, I can't seem to insert my XD card into the designated space. Any suggestions?

SOURCE: SD Card Reader won't work?

have you tried other sd cards before or is this the first time?

if you have and its just this time it hasent make sure its working in your camera or mp3 player or where ever it came from :-)
if it works have a look in your device manager to make sure there are no problems with the drivers.

1 start
2 control pannel
3 system
4 then the hardware tab and click the device manager.

if there are anyproblems there is useually a little symbol next to the device just double click on it and have a look for the error code.

if all else fails try reinstaling the driver for your card reader or find an updated drivr download.

hope this helps

SOURCE: sd card

First you need to see if the computer reconizes the reader, to do this you double click on the computer icon on your desktop, then look to see if there are any drives other than your hard drive and cd roms. If the computer does not see the reader then you may need to download drivers. As to how to get the drivers it depends on your setup if the reader was installed in the computer when you bought it then you will want to go to the computer manfactuer website, if you bought the reader seperatly then you should have recived a disk with it if not go to the website of the card reader manfactuer.

Hope this helps.

SOURCE: tech-com 25-in-1 card reader in vista

the reason its failing is because vista doesn't play well with certain SD cards.

more than likely your SD card does not support 1.8 volts. (Typically, most SD cards use 3.3 volts.) and your comp might be running a 1.8 volt SD host controller.

also this occurs because of a timing issue with the SD host controller. (might be why it works sometimes)

Luckily Microsoft has SILENTLY (typical) released a fix for this problem

you need hot fix 936825...... download it, install it and reboot.

I think this is the link for the page where the fix is (requires validation to make sure you actually own vista)
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=E42FC131-6A76-4B27-934A-FB19DD323DAB&displaylang=en

If not, go here and search for 936825
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com

give this a shot and see what happens first. you could still have it set as an unknown device for some reason (windows sucks)

if the fix doesn't work, kick me an email
good luck! let me know how it turns out,

Why wont my computer read my SD card? i have a Samsung TL210 double view hd camera. when i put my 8gig SD card in my computer nothing happens at all i have a vista computer ok. i am 13 years old so make...

If the 8Gb SD card works on your HD camera, then the problem is with your built in memory card of your computer. Most of the built in memory cards of the computer only supports up to 2Gb.
You can actually isolate it by trying to test an SD card lower than 8Gb to your computer.
Solution for this is to use external USB SD reader that supports high capacity SD card (SDHC) or contact the manufacturer of your computer and ask for firmware updates for the memory card reader. Hope this is clear and would help you.

What do i buy so i can attach my digi power dp-fcr20/ mini sd/ms duo card reader/writter so i can attach my mini sd to it and sorry if hard to understand

If the card-reader states it's for a mini-sd card, then you should just be able to insert the mini-sd card into one of the slots. However, some card readers double-up on slots by making it so more than one card-type can be inserted into the same slot. See if the mini-sd card can be put into one of the slots successfully. Tip: Read your manual before doing so, so you don't get card stuck in wrong slot.

Put new SD card in (Micro Center brand) can only read card when I plug camera into computer cannot read card when I plug card into computer. Card slot on computer works on my Nikon card.

It is possible that the card may be corrupt or damaged, you could try to get a Canon SD card and try that , I'm guessing that the camera came with a Canon SD card when it was new?. The Micro Center SD cards come with a 3 year limited warranty so try contacting them, personally I use Kingston SD cards.

Cnt download music doesnt show on computer

Is the problem that you have music in the HCSD and can not get it into your computer because the computer does not see the SD card?

If yes, many older (and not that old) computers will recognize the HC vesrions of the SD cards. My computer that I purchased about a year ago has no issue with them, another computer I work on at church, bought 3 years ago, will not recognize it. I think it has more to do with the card reader than the computer itseld though.

Upgrading the card reader may solve your problem. determine the manufacturer of the card reader in your PC and go to thier website to see if updated drivers or firmware are available.

Peace,

My SD card reader on my Sony Vaio will not read the card...it seems to know its in the slot, but won't read any data and says 'insert the SD card' if I go to computer and try to read it. Any thoughts?

Take a can of air and blow some into the slot to make sure dust or dirt isn't getting the way of that reader trying to read the sd cards.

If you still get the same message try another SD card in that reader or try to see if another computer will read your SD card, if another computer will read the SD card and the slot still won't recognize the sd cards properly, then you know at that point the reader is bad. If the reader is bad, thats integrated into the motherboard so the motherboard would need to be replaced.

I have a 4gb sandisk micro sdhc with adapter and the computer freezes when i have it in the sd drive.I have a hp pavilion a1 a1203w. Is there anything i can do?? Please Help

I had a similar problem not long ago. The SD and SDHC standards are different. SD only goes up to 2GB, and SDHC (high capacity) goes higher than 2GB. THe problem is that SD card readers aren't capable of reading SDHC cards, even though the card will physically fit into the card reader slot. When you insert an SDHC card into an SD card reader, the reader attempts to read the format, and locks up the OS while trying. You'll need to get an SDHC card reader and use it separately like through a USB port or something.

You may need the card reader drivers installed. What is the exact model (110, 150, D150?) and operating system of your laptop?

Drivers can be found at the following link given the model of laptop, I can help you find it further if you provide the requested info above.

Wii sd card reader

i think that you must format the card. try that first and if it still doesn't work, maybe try a lower capacity card (though capacity shouldn't be the issue)
hopefully that helps
