Are you using a cable box or is your input through the coax cable or antenna? If you are using a cable box with RCA connections make sure the Red and Black cables are securely plugged in both the cable box and the TV. Check to see if your TV has sound by going to the antenna input and select any channel and crank up the volume. If you don't hear anything you'll probably need a new TV.

If not muted, check the speaker/s. If found OK; check and replace the damaged component/s at its audio output section circuit board. If needy, replace this board as card basis. We had the same problem - sound got quieter and quieter until Buzz was mute. My husband gave Buzz a sharp whack on his back where the AAA battery compartment is located and Voila - Buzz is speaking again.
pls verify that in "Sound, video and game controllers" in the Device Manager, there are no yellow or red marks;
check that all the drivers are installed;
thereafter, double click on the speaker icon in the System Tray.
on the new Speaker window, click on Options, Properties, Playback, check "Microphone", OK, uncheck "Mute" and slide the control up to desired mic level;
click again on Options, Properties, Recording,
check "Microphone", OK, uncheck "Mute" and slide the control up to
desired mic level.
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.
Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.
If "mute" has been selected, the volume will still show on the screen, and will only unmute if the volume +button is pressed or if mute button is pressed again...accordianman
