SOURCE: black soot in dryer

it sounds like something might have ignited in the dryer, something small. you need to remove the front of the dryer and then the front bulkhead. This will expose the motor, you will be able to see the impeller blades and clean anything stuck in there. I would reove the motor so i could clean out the exhaust tube. Look over by the burner area to see if any burnt material is there that needs to be cleaned. That should do it

SOURCE: dryer smelled of burning plastic, smoked stopped turning on

check the power cord itself, if you see on the back side of the cord a burnt or blackened spot then the cord is the issue

Sure is, Lots of lint can settle on the burner chute and even ignite causing the problem you incurred. You need to take the front cover off at least once anually to vac out the lint accumulation.

SOURCE: Dryer Top Hot / New Heating Element Smell

Any time you perform work inside a dryer, lint can get kicked around and settle on components. It is common to have a slight burning smell for a day or so. However, your dryer getting too hot to the touch concerns me. Improper air flow is the number one cause of dryer overheating problems. You may have cleaned the lint out of the interior of your dryer, but did you check the air blower and vent duct lines? In addition, was the heating elements actually bad? Or, did you assume it was bad, because your dryer wasn't drying properly? The following link can explain:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r630242-dryer_runs_but_not_heat

Pay particular attention to the paragraph that discusses proper ventilation. I would recommend you remove the vent hose from the back of the dryer and attempt to dry another load. If the dryer dries more efficiently and the top panel does not get scorching hot to the touch, then you have a vent clog somewhere EXTERNAL to the dryer. If the dryer air flow exiting the dryer is weak and the dryer still gets too hot to the touch, you have a clog INSIDE the dryer.

Follow these steps, first and see what you find. If you verify your ventilation is clear and not kinked or clogged anywhere, then you might assume you have a component malfunction. I would hope to try to save you from purchasing parts you may not need. I hope you find this information helpful. Let me know if you require additional assistance.

PS Make sure you are using semi-rigid (metal type) vent ducting. It is crush resistant, heat resistant, does not kink easily, and resists rodents. It is what most manufacturers recommend. If you haven't replaced the dryer vent in a while, this may be a good time.

Why is the dishwasher smelling like electric burning and smoke coming out of the door vent?

Hi friend, thank you for your post!

I understand that your Frigidaire dishwasher is giving off an electric burning smell and you are seeing smoke coming out of the door vent. It could possibly be an issue with your control panel or door vent, both have electrical components inside of them. Since it could be either one of these underlying issues I would recommend having a technician come out to your home and diagnose and repair the dishwasher. Hope this helps. -Matt

Burning smell however, motor runs fine, belt looks good, element heats up, vent is clean. i'm at a lose

Dryers collect lint.
Some, like the one I fixed last month, had a whole wastebasket full of lint inside it where you could not get it out without tearing the whole dryer apart.
I\'m suspecting either lint or some other foreign object is burning.
For your safety, please take it completely apart, or get someone else who knows what they are doing to do so, before you have a dryer fire.
( P.S. The last dryer I just fixed had a worn out felt on the drum, allowing the blower fan to suck lint past the screen and fill the inside of the dryer with that lint.)
Be blessed.

The clothes are coming out of the dryer smelling burnt.

you probably have lint build up on the heating element. the lint will burn when the heater is on, and transfer the burning smell to your clothes inside. Probably time to take it apart and vacuum everything out .

I have a Maytag neptune dryer model # MDE5500AY. I smelled a smokey and electrical smell tonight. What's going on? Lint catcher is clean and I also clean around dryer. House was built in 2004 and dryer is...

the fault is lint build up around the dyer element the element must be cleared of all lint after years of use despite having a catcher lint does get into the dryer in time it will build around the heating element and start to burn this is unsightly but more so very dangerous as it does cause house fires have the element cleaned

best of luck

Dryer smoking up house and threw exhaust vent smells like something burnt

Hello, Well the smell is most likely from lint that is trapped in the dryer burning. The first thing you need to do is check the lint screen just inside the door. Second is to take the vent tube off of the back of the dryer and check to see if it is plugged with lint inside of the dryer. Clean out any you can see, also if the tubing inside of the dryer is most likely plugged with lint and the heating element is catching the lint on fire. If let go without cleaning this will cause a fire! I work for an appliance repair company and have seen dryers catch fire due to them being clogged with lint, you have two options; first is to clean it yourself, second is to have an appliance repair technician come to your home and clean it. The second is easier and safer but the first is cheaper but very labor intensive. I hope that answered your question and helped. Good luck!

belts dont really burn the main reason for buring smell is lint on the element did you take the whole barrel out? as 90% of the lint that burns is formed around the heating coil behind the barrel

As describe earlier, my dryer started smoking, and maing a burning smell from behind the drum. There is no evidence of lint buildup in the exhaust, and the dryer still starts smelling as if it is on fire...

i just had this problem. Did you notice the lint buildup under the lint drawer? Well, there is no way to recover that lint, it is not accessible by the consumer. So the lint bits get sucked in to the out take which actually pulls across the hot element. The "solution" is to replace the element and the parts surrounding. It is very expensive, and does not resolve the issue. The lint will continue to be drawn across to that area and build up and become a fire hazard. I am about to try Bosch for a solution, but that is what they have told me for now. Eventually this make/model of dryer will burn someone's house down. I am very glad I was home when the smoke detector went off. I will have to get a new dryer.

Kenmore Electric Dryer Series 80 110.86980800 burning smell

If this is a new element, this is normal until it has been used a few cycles. Use it and watch it carefully for a while. If it continues have a competent person to take the rear panel off and check for burnt wires or lint inside the unit.

Whirlpool dryer

You need to check the dryer INTERIOR to ensure there's no lint accumulations on or around the heating element. The exhaust systems on dryers are not perfect and SOME lint often gets by the lint screen and can start the collect inside the dryer. The lint will begin to smolder and give off an odor if it sits on the heating element housing. Make sure the dryer is unplugged before attempting to access the interior. If the model number you provided is correct, the heating element will be located under the drum on the right-hand side. You will need to lift the dryer top and remove the front panel (with the door) to access the inside and vacuum. Let me know if you need further assistance. I hope this information is helpful to you.

Dryer burning smell

Have you painted or stained in your house or apartment recently? The smell gets everywhere, dryer, stove, heating unit. I recently primed with Kilz and the clothes from my dryer smelled burned. When I called for service, it was the first question the service person asked and said they made a lot of useless trips only to find nothing wrong with the appliance. That was my case. I had to rewash clothes and let the dryer run with towels for a while
