This problem is usually attributed to a pressure switch problem. The pressure switch is located under the operator console behind the load size or water level knob. This controls the fill level of the wash tub and shuts off the water inlet valve when it reaches the appropriate level. The pressure switch usually has an electrical connection and a small air hose attached to it. In some cases you may not have a defective switch at all. The air hose can come loose and fall off, or develop air leaks. Check the air hose to ensure it is properly connected to the pressure switch. If it is not, it can easily be reconnected. To prevent it from slipping off again, place a small zip tie around the hose at the point where it connects to the switch. DO NOT over-tighten as you may damage the small pressure switch fitting. Just make it snug enough to keep the hose from slipping off. If the hose is still attached, check the entire length of hose from the switch to where it connects to the wash tub for any splits, cracks, or holes. If you do not have an air hose problem, check the electrical connections to make sure the connector tabs are not corroded and you do not have any broken wires. If you have checked all the preliminary items, and still have problems, replace your pressure switch. If you post back with your complete model number it would help in providing part numbers if needed. I hope this helps you.

If the water continues to flow into the washer with power removed from the washer, ie; unplugging it, then the water valve is faulty.

Machine fills too slowly and continues to fill in whole cycle

Remove the water filler hoses at the machine and test the flow of each one. If very slow, check the inlet screens on the faucet ends for plugging and make sure the faucets furnish full flow. The hoses themselves can sometimes become restricting of flow--replace them if so. Next, check the inlet solenoids on the machine for proper flow and shutoff when the power to them is stopped. They may or may not be cleanable--replace them if they are trouble. Hope this helps!

Hi there my hotpoint washing machinewma 54 fills up without the machine being on

Hello. your fill valve is faulty and needs to be replaced.

here is how the fill valve is supposed to work:
The fill valve--which is about the size of a coffee cup--is sometimes also called a "water inlet valve." It controls the entry of hot and cold water into the machine. The valve has three major components:

  • A hot-water solenoid

  • A cold-water solenoid

  • A mixing valve body

The inlet valve has three hoses connected to it, for :

  • The hot water from the house

  • The cold water from the house

  • The water directed into the washing machine's inner tub (either hot or cold, or both) to fill it with water

When electricity flows to one or both solenoids, water flows through the valve into the washing machine's inner tub. When the electricity stops, the water also stops.

Kenmore washing machine 80 series

check for kinks in the pipe or restrictions to the flow in the pipes before it gets to the washer, if all is ok then check the filter on the outside of the water connector on the machine for dirt

if you confirm all is clear and the flow of water is not the problem before the machine, replace the cold water solenoid
