When you get inside the machine (carefully, of course), you'll see a circular watch-type battery about the size of a quarter in a holder on the motherboard. Generally they are a type 2032. There will be a small metal tab on the edge of the holder that, when depressed, will pop the battery up a bit so it can be removed. Be sure you get the new one in correctly (ie., with the positive + side up...look at the one you're taking out).

This type of battery is quite inexpensive. I've see them for $3.50 for a package of two at Home Depot, and then I've seen some grocery stores getting $8 for one. Watch out.

Hope that's helpful.

Generally on the e-machines laptops there is a large inspection cover at the bottom of the laptop, remove this and you should see the Cmos battery, which will be one of three types:
Coin type in a holderr
Coin type sheathed in plastic and conneceted by a 2 pin wire to a plug
Coin type as above but which is soldered to the board

If the battery is not under the hatch, you will have to dissasemble the laptop to get to the motherboard

D600 wont power up

Try removing the battery and boot on the power cord sometimes the battery shorts the system so it will not boot if it does boot then you need to replace the battery it could be the battery is dead and your power cord is bad check and make sure that is not the case if the power cord is good then I would look into replacing the mother board you can find a replacement on Ebay or at dell .if you have to replace it do a google search on hot to replace the mother board on a Dell latitude D600
and you will ba able to get step by step on how to disassemble it

How to unlock bios of toshiba portege m500

two options

1. look on the mother board for a small round battery about the size of a nickle, remove it, start pc, after start up shut down, replace battery, start up again... or remove battery, let sit for about 30min, replace battery start pc.

2. look for a small red or yellow toggle switch or button on the mother board, (should say "reset bios") push button, restart pc.

i assume this is a lap top so there will be some disassembly of the unit, not to extreme though, usualy the battery and the switch/button are next to one another and located toward the front of the mother board, and if in lap tops the battery or batteries are in a plastic covering wired to the mother board with a small connector, just unplug connector if you cant find the reset button.

hope that helps

Tech says i need new motherboard computer won´t turn on

Before you buy a new mother board, (the L300D-13S board is around $185 from China), remove your battery, leave it for about 5 minutes. Use only the Mains power supply and see if it will switch on.
Fit the battery, plug in the Mains Charger and see if the battery charge light comes on. If it does and it won't give you a screen or flash the hard drive light or power up the hard drive, then I am inclined to go along with a replacement Mother Board.
The laptop has to complete the POST and if it doesn't that usually points to Mother Board problems.
Were you trying to upload a newer version of the BIOS before it failed?
Good luck but check ebay and beware there are some really dodgy frauds out there.

My Laptop DV6000EU in Aug 2007. Warrenty on Mother board

it should be under waranty seeing that the motherboard is malfunctioning again. normally the hardware will go out before the motherboard and seeing that its the same problem again mark the motherboard in a nice little place with a marker to insure they are not doing a repair and giving you back the same faulty board.

Why litium battery in mother board(intel, asus)?

The lithium battery is use to power up the RTC/CMOS chip which stores the date and time, and some essential configuration settings for your motherboard. If you notice that your computer clock is not displaying the proper date and/or time after you set it correctly, then you may have to change the battery.
