Hitachi 50" projection TV (13 years old)

The tv will come on only if I cut the power several times by unplugging and plugging it back in and hitting the switch. Each time I hit the switch it attempts to come on and eventually does.It will then work the rest of the night. You are able to cut it on and off. The next day it will not come on without going through this process.

The problem with your set is a power management problem caused by excessive current drain from somewhere in the set. Typical is the high voltage or deflection circuits. Your set probably does not need a new board.

Your set is not old. It should be good for about 15 to 18 years. If you want to keep it around for a while, I would suggest you fix it. I would call around and try to find someone who knows how to diagnose down at the circuit level and who has direct experience with Hitachi sets.

Hope that helps.......

Since the set works eventually, I would first look for poor solder connections that are causing sufficient changes in circuit characteristics to prevent startup. If you can solder, open up the back and look for any solder connections that appear grainy or have rings and resolder them. If that failes to resolve the problem, then we need to start looking at the power supply area. There could be a few bad capacitors there that are preventing startup.

Keep us posted on your progress.

The switch is probably broken, you will need to replace the switch or the whole control panel.

It is probably a switch problem or a problem with the control board behind the switch. In either case the repair can go over $150, in case they need to replace the whole control board even over $200. Due to the tv age, It may be worth buying a new tv.

Hitachi 50UX53K Ultravision will not stay on

The set is going into shut down mode for avariety of reasons. Some of the more common problems are vertical o/p ic bad connection or failure, poor solder connection usually in the power or hv section or possibly comb filter circuit breakdown causing 12V line to short. This set incorporate 7 or more shut down circuits and any one of them could be triggering - more trouble shooting is required

My 50 inch hitachi projection tv keeps powering up and down.

First it is not an emergency.
No Legitimate repair company should be that busy.
Call Hitachi and get an AUTHORIZED Hitachi dealer to service your TV.
Your problem is beyond self help/
Unplug the TV until it is repaired properly or you will do more damage and have a much larger repair bill.
