Question about Kenmore Vacuums

1 Answer

The mechanism that rolls back in the power cord seems to be working slower and sometimes not at all. Was wondering if the mechanism in question has an adjustment to increase the tension on it so the power cord goes in faster like it used to. Thanks Rafael

It easy to adjust the roll back of vacuums the problem is hard to dismantle the unit to remove all the things to see the adjustment roll, all vacuums is need to remove all screw to open the unit even to replace the small parts like switch, and sometimes we cannot adjust the roll back if the spring is worn out we need to replace the new one,for me much better call and service technician for your comfortable and practically to not damage the other plastic part of the unit.and you get a warranty service for that one.

How do i stop the power cord from rolling back in?? It retracts all by itself all the time.

Either the mechanism that releases the code is bad or the cord reel needs replaced.

My Miele S4780 Vaccum has no power at either the switch on the unit or the hand held nozzle. I checked the cord and it seems to be OK. What could the problem be?

Could be the cord reel. Try laying the vac on it's side and turning it on. Sometimes you may even need to gently bounce it. If this works, you have a bad cord reel. Check my other answers for how to fix this.

You will probably have to replace the cord winding mechanism. I have never had any luck trying to repair one. Cord retracters are great when they work but it seems like they always go bad before too long. On many units you can't even replace the cord if you get a bad spot in it, you have to buy a new cord reel which can get expensive.

I can't recoil the electrical cord. What do I need to do?

Open the bag door, remove the bag (leave door open)and then with a hammer and a blunt instrument(wooden dowel) Strike the side rubber "bumper" rails towards the open door side of the machine from the back of the vacuum. You should get it started and then it should easily pull out from both sides. you can remove the bottom of the vacuum and remove the cord "guard" to allow the cord to go thru also. The back is held on by the union of these two halves by dowel pins(plastic nubs) Sometimes the "spring" mechanism gets jammed from over pulling. Just simply roll the smaller wheel to retract the cord manually. You could try spraying the rollers with a silicone or graphite type spray to allow free movement of the spring. Hopes this helps. How is the V-belt tension adjusted (Hoover Model U6439-900)or how do I know if the tension is correct? There seems to be a lot of "play" in the belt and I'm wondering if that is the reason the brush roll...

The V-Belt is not adjustable. There are two ways the belt has no tension: (1) when the handle is upright, a mechanical lever takes the drive tension off the belt, and (2) the brush roll lever setting you described. The upper handle would have to be in the floor cleaning position to check the belt, not in the storage position.

Brushroll in electrolux oxygen+ deluxe

Is the brush roll not working at all? Check the teeth at the sides of the brush roll by opening up the electric head. If it has completely been destroyed you may have to buy another new head for it. Separate brush rolls are difficult to obtain and work out more expensive sometimes than the electric heads themselves.

Automatic Cord Rewinder is not rewinding anymore

I had the same problem - the power cord for my Hoover Elite Upright (U5507900) was stuck a few inches out and wouldn't go any further. But when I unscrewed the rewinding mechanism, the cord had clearly gotten twisted and partly buried under itself so after some work I was able to free it. Now it seems to be working fine, at least for the moment. Note that I had to use small screwdrivers to unscrew the cord rewinding compartment, like the kind of screwdrivers you use for computer repair.

Losing power on a carpet attachment

Does the motor stop or the brush roll? If it is the brush roll, then replace the belt. If the motor is stopping, then it could be the motor or the cord for the opwer head.

Electrolux Lux 7000 retractable power cord

The trim pieces along the sides just pull off seperating the two housings. The back portion where the retract drum is is held by two plastic tangs on top inside. use a screwdriver to pry the ring down to dislodge the tangs. the bottom part will lift off. remove the front part using two screws just below the hinge. the retract has a long coil spring wound around a free spinning hub. there are two "tangs" inside that engage a ratchet-pawl assembly. you'll need to rotate the drum to rewind the spring onto its hub.

My vacuum takes off in drive

Some months ago I fell over my K-G6 at nite. Later the handle appeared looser than normal. Gradually, it started having the possessed yank-you-off-your-feet feel. This week I carefully disassembled the chrome plated cowling cover the handle goes thru to look inside. Two top machine screws when the front hood is lifted, two rear screws in the plastic, a single center screw near the drive-neutral toggle and a single screw for the power cord strain relief. I removed the handle by taking the two large screws off. This allowed the cowling to come free. From the rear, on the left side is a lever with a two pronged fork pointing up. The fork is supposed to stick into the receiver mechanism which is part of the handle slide. I get it: as the user pushes and pulls on the handle while vacuuming, the handle assembly slides back and forth and transmits commands thru the mechanical linkage to the drive mechanism. My fork was not engaged in the receiver. The reason was 3 screws on the left side of the brass block assembly were loose and the small black wedge was partially crushed. I dissassembled, cleaned, oiled and replaced the pieces and cinched down the 5 machine screws holding both brass blocks and the wedge. When I did this, I noticed the fork engaged with the receiver. Now reassembled, my Kirby runs pretty good and no longer feels possessed. And yes the roller height does make a difference on the drive assist reaction.
