Question about Sharp R-930AK Convection/Microwave Oven

1 Answer

I have a brand new Sharp-930AK convention/microwave. I used it for the first time yesterday on convection at 375 degrees for about 10 minutes. It makes a rattling noise. It is not consistent and seems to come and go. It seems to be coming from inside on the left side of the oven. This is a replacement model that I had for 18 years and dearly loved and that one never made a rattling sound. Any suggestions?

One of the solutions refered to the magnetron and called it buzzing. It's not buzzing it is rattling, like something is loose and moving around. Would that still be the magnetron?

It only rattles when I use the convection part - not the microwave. Would that still be the magnetron?

That sounds more like what it could be. Since it is only 1 week old I really hate to try to tear into it and start fixing things. I have contacted the source where I bought it. I bought it online so it would have to be shipped back so I am hoping they have someone who could come out and look at it. We are limited in our repairmen where I live.

Hi, i see a new microwave in your future. The buzzing is your magnetron's way of telling you it's about to blow. The magnetron is the big tube which generates the microwave energy. You could buy a new tube, but a new microwave is only a bit more, and you know it is less likely to leak microwave energy past the door seals, has new PC board, etc.
Since it's a brand new microwave, i suspect it is having a factory fault problem. So the best you can do is to return the microwave back to the purchase store and request for another one...

Hi, if it rattles while using the conventional part, then the convection fan blade is loose on the shaft.

You may be able to use super glue or JB Weld to fix the blade on the shaft, as long as they are clean and dry and it is allowed to set overnight.

There should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.

Convection not working

This almost certainly a bad thermistor. It may be open due to corrosion, or its resistance has dropped due to caked grease and / or carbon deposits.

The part number is FH-HZA041WRE0 and the best place to order Sharp parts is Tritronics.

We actually have the service manual for this model and have uploaded it to our site here to help you.

You will need the free Adobe Reader to view or print it.

If your model is not R-930, please reply back with your brand and model number so we can help you.
