Question about Infinity PS-8 Subwoofer

Open Question

I have a PS8 Subwoofer hooked up to a Yamaha Amp but I can't get any sound through the sub. Why does a subwoofer have a L and R audio input? What is a high powered input?

SOURCE: connect powered subwoofer

  • If your receiver has a dedicated subwoofer line level output, we recommend connecting your subwoofer to this jack. Most receivers will have just one (mono) subwoofer output, while quite a few subs require two inputs. You can use an RCA "Y" adapter cord , which is a cable with one female RCA jack at one end, and two male RCA plugs at the other. Some receivers require menu settings (such as "sub-on" or "front speakers-small") that must be made before the sub output will be active.

SOURCE: Infinity Entra Sub 150 no sound or power

I had the same problem. When I opened it up, the fuse was blown, and it was a pain to find the fuse it needs (3 Amp, 250 V slow-blow fuse, 5x20 mm). Also, the 2 large electrolytics (big purple things near the amp) and one small capacitor were all blown. For 4 fuses, bought seperately from, and the 2 electrolytics and 1 capacitor, it cost about $20, plus almost 20 more in shipping, which still isnt bad considering the original price of the sub. However, the tricky part is that you have to know how to use a soldering iron to take out the old components and put in the new ones.

Look around for a subwoofer which has speaker level inputs.

How do i connect ms 10 sub to yamaha RX-V1065 amp, I am using 2 monster cables.

The ms 10 is an active sub, so all you should do is connect the Subwoofer output on the rear of your amp to the LFE input on the sub with a simple audio cable.

Hello ! I'm not sure how to connect my kef psw 2500 sub to my yamaha amp. I've got a subwoofer out on my amp but there's 4 inputs on the sub and I don't no which one to use ! Please help as getting...

Just for clarity, I need to explain what the four inputs are on the KEF subwoofer. There is a left and right RCA input which is the input signal to the subwoofer and there is a left and right RCA output which is the High Pass output from the subwoofer.

On the back of the Yamaha receiver, you said you have a subwoofer output. This output is most likely the mono subwoofer part of the home theater system and can be used if you like. The left right signal input into the KEF is summed into mono so if you only connect one channel you will basically reduce the signal level by 1/2 (-3dB) but it will work fine.

Alternatively, if your Yamaha receiver has monitor out and monitor in, you can run the monitor output signals to the subwoofer and you can then run the high pass outputs from the subwoofer back to the monitor in. This will give you the subwoofer and provide a smoother signal matching with your audio system.

It is not always easy to connect the subwoofer up to an integrated receiver/home cinema system using the high pass channels of the subwoofer as you don't always have access to the analog output and input of the front channels. In this case, just use the Subwoofer output or just the monitor out only.

I hope this solution is helpful.

I am trying to hook up a powered sub woofer to a yamaha rx-v461 and i dont know what cables go where on the back of the sub there are two speaker ports and there are two plug ins but each speaker port has...

Your subwoofer probably has both high-power inputs and "normal"low inputs. The first are for receivers, which don't have link-level output for sub, so they are able to take already amplified signal as input.
You need to use link-level input of your sub and connect it to subwoofer-output of your receiver. The output is marked as OUTPUT - Subwoofer and is black-color RCA plug (don't confuse with subwoofer INPUT under MULTI CH INPUT).
Receiver has only mono output for subwoofer. If your sub has stereo input (white/red RCA plugs), connect just the left channel to the receiver, it will still work.
Don't connect anything to the speaker output on the sub, you don't need that.

I have the same setup. Are you going out of the subwoofer output of the reciever? (it's purple.) then into the LFE jack of the subwoofer (also purple.) That's the only connection you need besides power. If you have those right, try using your cable for something else to make sure the cable is good. Is the indicator of the subwoofer green? Mine comes on with the reciever. Good luck!

Best hook- up Polk psw10 sub woofer to yamaha rx-v663 receiver

You will not need to y connect your subwoofer, if you have only one RCA sub out on your receiver the other end of the RCA connector cable goes into the left input on most powered subs, there is no loss of signal, the option exist as some receiver do sport a double RCA sub out.

Just use the left input on the sub. The sub frequency components are generally across both channels, the left and right are to allow for easier integration with systems that have no specific sub output, a low pass filter is applied to the audio, left and right get mixed, and then feed to the subs internal amp. I advise for performance to use line level(low level-NOT speaker) inputs wherever possible. If you have any other questions, I am here to help ya. A "FixYa"rating would help my profile. Thanks.

    Happy listening

just connect your subwoofer mono RCA to your amp sub single out rca connector. you do not need to megre all those 4terminals into one. in fact internal circuit of those 4rca are merging inside to one since the sub uses only a single amp. 4inputs was meant for sources with multiple sub out

NICE SUB! I have found that when this happens, there is a good possiblity that there is a loose connection on the speaker, or on the crossover network inside the sub. The real only way to test this sub to see if it is indeed the sub, would be to test it in real time under controlled conditions. That would involve hooking the sub up to a power amp that has a tone generator attached to the input and driving the sub to its rated capacity. Other then that, you could probe around to see if you have or can see any loose connections inside the sub BUT I would not recommend you doing this while the amp is on as you could short out the output stage in the amp. My best advice would be to take or send this sub into an authorized Yamaha repair station. Good Luck
