Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

SOURCE: My JVC cd player, plus Mini disc, and radio. CD will not play

Thank you for your email. The problem must have been dust. I kept putting the cleaning disc in for quite a number of times. Thankfully the problem was simple and it is playing super.

Kind regards to all.

That is not a lot of information to go on, but I suspect there is a problem with the transport or heads which causes it to shut down. I've had similar instances with several of the MD Decks I've had.
On any MD deck if the complex play/recording head which is optical magnetic gets messed up you are probably better off to just buy another unit. The best use for a MD Deck with a bad head is to use it as an analog to digital converter or vice versa; if it has sufficient inputs to do so (the inputs vary with the model).
Sorry I can't be more specific with the limited information you have given. It is probably due to the stress of the head malfunctioning causing the shut down.

I checked Minidisc.org and could not find a manual for that one. I know MDs pretty well and had never heard of it.

Most Sony MD remotes will operate most functions on this unit, almost all of the Sony MD remotes are available on ebay even the rare ones.

Do you have an address or phone number of someone in the North Island,New Zealand that repairs mini disk players please?? Cheers Marilyn

The only place I know of who repairs MD Decks are in Germany or the USA, In the USA Pro Digital of Philadelphia does. Check eBay Germany for MD parts and supplies, the seller there also does repairs.
I'm sorry I do not know anyone down under who does them, I'm also listing this as a reference for others who may need help.
In general if it needs fixing due to the age of most of these units, you are probably better off just buying another unit which works on ebay.

MD player windows keep saying "no disc" when a disc is inserted. This started after the door starting getting sticky opening and closing. Any help would be great. Thanks

The little switch that detects the disc is inserted goes bad quite often on all of these sony home MD recorders. Do an online search as I have seen a step by step approach on it's repair. Make sure to UNPLUG the unit before removing any covers and poking-around inside. Good luck,

Every time I load a disc the words 'disc load error' appear

Inside all MD players are a number of small pinswitches. These sense whether the MD is correctly inserted, whether the record protection tab is activated and whether the protective slide on the MD has retracted after MD insertion. On Other (portable) MD playback devices will also have a pinswitch which checks that the lid has been closed, but yours is slot loading so does not have this.

Pinswitches do not last forever as the internal parts can fail due to fatigue or due to misuse, and in every MD player which I've examined with the symptoms you describe the fault has either been a pinswitch or a faulty solder joint to the switch.

Without examining the unit though it's not possible for me to narrow down the fault any further but if you have basic electrical skills and tools you can use a continuity meter across each pinswitch to determine which one is not working correctly.

The part is cheap: original spares are usually unavailable but can normally be replaced with a generic item or bypassed altogether if the user is prepared to accept minor losses in overall functionality.

Note that a good used MDS-JE480 is still relatively easy to find: my first one cost me just £30 on eBay less than two years ago and since then I've acquired another which was listed on FreeCycle for the princely sum of zilch. Yamaha and Kenwood units are also knocking around although few of these have the MDLP capability of the JE-480. So don't bother with spending much on repairing your current unit without looking for another replacement first as it's likely to be the cheaper option.
