Question about Whirlpool Ultimate Care II LSQ9564J Top Load Washer

Whirlpool washer LA5580XTW1 agitates when supposed to be filling

We just recently reassembled our washer after replacing the basket drive tube as well as the motor and isolation coupling. After reconnecting the wiring, the washer agitates when it's supposed to be filling or spins when supposed to be filling. There appear to be only three wires, but can not come up with proper wiring sequence.

Washer spins loudly and seems to free wheel and other times does not drain properly

Check the motor to transmission coupling, probably broken.
Also check the inner basket drive block. The drive block is attached to the top of the spin tube-basket drive assembly under the inner basket. The spanner nut is under the agitator, locking the basket to the spin tube. The drive block has two slots that lock onto the two ears of the spin tube. Replace the damaged drive block, and/or replace the basket drive/brake assembly.

I have a Kenmore 80 series top load, direct drive washer. It will fill with h2o but will not agitate or spin. I had changed the moter coupler prior to this new problem and I rechecked it and it looks fine....

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:

http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action

Enter your model number (###.######) and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.

Next, see the whirlpool / kenmore Service Manual for top load, direct drive washers:

https://secured.whirlpool.com/Service/SrvTechAdm.nsf/2cd44500d572193285256a45004fd9d6/f7e2147fa98b28cf85257122007475cb/$FILE/L-55.pdf

I'd first pull the cabinet and completely remove the motor coupler, check that the holes in the center rubber piece are intact and then replace it.

If the holes in the center piece and the prongs from the plastic pieces aren't ligned up correctly when re-installing it, you can strip the center unit. It would look fine from a glance but wouldn't be able to drive the gearcase.

Since you CAN hear the motor, the problem does point to the coupler:

Also see the following for a detailed description of how to replaced it.

Kenmore washer model 110.23812100. basket not spinning during spin cycle.

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer.

http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/getModel!retrieve.pd?pop=true&modelNumber=110.23812100

Also see the Whirlpool Service Manual for these washers.

https://secured.whirlpool.com/Service/SrvTechAdm.nsf/2cd44500d572193285256a45004fd9d6/f7e2147fa98b28cf85257122007475cb/$FILE/L-55.pdf

If you can hear the motor and the washer drains during the spin cycle the Motor Coupler and Lid Switch (the usual problems with these washers) are not the problem.

These washers use a clutch which allows the "basket tube" to spin up to speed during the spin cycle.

If the clutch bands or springs are worn or damaged, the transmission cannot transmit power to the basket tube for spining.

See the following on how to remove the cabinet, agitators, basket, pump, transmission and basket tube. (It's not as difficult as it sounds.)

http://www.american-appliance.com/catalog/newsdesk_info.php?newsPath=16&newsdesk_id=137

Instead of using a special spanner wrench on the spanner nut, I've used a short 10" pipe wrench hooked onto one of the tabs on the nut and tapped the handle with a hammer to loosen the nut. I also put a short piece of wood under the Basket Drive Block and hit the wood instead of the drive block directly.

Check the clutch bands and springs and the tabs on top of the basket tube and the slots in the basket drive block.

Direct Drive Kenmore Washing Machine will not spin a full load of clothes during rinse or spin but will spin a small load. Agitates fine. Replaced drive coupler, clutch and basket drive...no luck. What...

its possible the ears on the top of the drive tube have worn alowing the basket drive block to slip and not turn the clothes basket with authority, or the basket drive block has just worn from overloading and needs replacing.. is easy to verify by looking..
best of luck,

At the end of the spin cycle, my Kenmore Washing Machine makes a grinding noise like an out of balance brake drum. What could be the problem

If your washer model number starts with 110. it's a whirlpool washer. Whirlpool use a spin tube with two notches in it. There is a block assembly that holds the inner basket down on to the spin tube. This can be accessed by removing the top of the agitator and take out the 7/16 screw. Lift the agitator to expose the top of the spin tube. The tube is stripped on top where the basket sits. When the washer stops spinning, the inner basket keeps moving. That is the noise you hear. Replace the spin tube and possibly the block.

Inner basket scrapes on bottom of liner tub during spinn cycle

It sounds like the basket drive block is worn. If it looks like the basket drive block has slid down the brake & drive tube (I believe you're calling it the spindle), it's definitely worn out. When this part is in place it sits on top of the brake & drive tube and won't allow the basket to go lower. To replace this, remove the cabinet to gain access to the the inner basket which you will have to remove. On the top of the brake & drive tube you will see 2 small tabs. Align these with the cutouts on the basket drive block. Mount the drum back on top, and tighten the spanner nut. Reassemble the cabinet and you should be good to go.
Let me know if you need more assistance.
Good luck!

Whirlpool super capacity Lsq9549lw0 has trouble spinning on its own.

If the washer does fine thru the agitation cycle (the washing), that means the motor is OK and the coupler is OK.  It would not agitate unless both are OK.  (and don't listen if anyone tells you the lid switch is bad -- machine would not fill & go thru wash cyle). The spin is another matter.  There is a separate tube for spinning the basket.  There is a drive  block at top of the tube (that sometimes fails)  and there is a separate cluch mechanism below, under the tub.  Those places is where you should look.
