    I've only had this camera about few months. It was working perfectly until one day I turned the camera on, the lens came out but then Lens Error came on the screen. What can I do to get this problem resolved myself instead of having to take it to get it fixed.

Check the contacts in the battery case. You can stretch/bend the contacts further out and the problem seems to go away for a while.

When power ON the screen displays"Lens Error!" & lens does not open.

Hi,
This error indicate that focusing ring got stuck or jammed due sand, dust, may be due to external shock caused by dropping the device.
  • You can gently bump the camera to try to free the focusing ring.
  • You can try to turn camera ON at the table (facing it to the ceiling), don't put camera down face to the floor when opening.
If motor is running but lens won't retract sometimes lens would slip off with the gear or break off a tooth in the gear when it gets dropped. Try to gently move the lens barrel around with the finger and see if it is moving, but if tooth or gear is broken lens will move onces or twice then it will stuck again.

Else your camera need to be disassembled to get at the focusing ring at Service Center.

Nikon coolpix camera dropped. displays 'lens error' on screen

Hi,

The technically correct solution would be to dis-assemble, clean, re-lubricate and reassemble the lens assembly or better yet, seek repair from a authorized service center or a qualified professional. However, a non-technical workaround maybe possible. This would require thumping the bottom of the camera against the palm of one's hand while powering on. The idea is to jar the lens back into action. Please bear in mind that the opposite could also hold true, the lens would be more stuck.

Another possibility is insufficient power even with new/fresh or fully charged batteries. It maybe that the camera is not receiving sufficient power to engage/retract the lens fully. Possibly, the battery terminals/contacts of the camera has developed a resistive coating of corrosion. Please try:
  • clean the battery contacts of the camera (cotton buds maybe used);
  • it may be necessary to scrape them to expose fresh metal (a nail file would serve the purpose);
  • in some instances, it may even be needed to stretch/bend them a bit (a pair of tweezers could do the job).
The idea is to afford these contacts to offer more pressure to the batteries ensuring full power delivery.

If problem persists, you need to call Nikon.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

Lens error, restart camera

Lens error is usually caused by mechanical faults concerning lens assembly. The lens cannot extend or retract fully, the error is detected and lens error is returned.
Sometimes this can be fixed playing with the lens during extraction or retraction to help the lens asset getting back to normal.
More often the camera lens must be disassembled and re-assembled by a technician to fix the problem.

Dropped my Fuji S7000. Am I doomed?

The lens is probably jammed internally. Get an estimate from your local quality camera shop. Sometimes the problem is easy to repair and sometime you'll need a new lens assembly (may cost more than the camera.)

Lens Error

I have the same problem with my nikon coolpix s200. After 2 months the lens of my camera won't go inside. On the lcd screen stood lens error. I went to a shop with this problem. He took the battery out of my camera and press the off and on button for a while. Then he put the battery back in the camera and press the on button. The lens of the camera was now going inside en outside and inside and outside with a strange noise. And also on the screen stood lens error. Okey, the lens is inside the camera. But how can I fix this camera? What is the problem? What have you done? Please let know..!!

The E18 error is fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension.

Here's some things that you can do to try to correct it. They only seem to work for about 50% of lens errors, but they're worth a try:

The lens won't come out.

It depends on your definition of shot, it sounds to me like the lens assembly is jammed, this often happens when camera's are dropped. You can send it to KODAK if it's under warranty (which it won't be if you say it's been dropped) to fix and they'll likely replace the lens assembly (they might have another name for it) but if it's not under warranty the cost of the labour and the lens will likely be very close or more than the value of the camera.
Good luck,
Matt
