Question about Sony Computers & Internet

Running Win 7.0 on a Vaio notebook. Vaio Gate was downloaded as an update, and since then I cannot browse while having a good internet connection. I uninstalled Vaio Gate. The System Restore function won't work, says that some files on my C drive are 'incompatible'...?

    Thanks Joe, I tried the cmd line inputs but it said 'elevation required' as administrator. But I'm the only user. So, I downloaded the winsock patch to another PC and installed it on the notebook and it said reboot required. That's where I'm at - its doing a CHKDSK at present, which seems like progress... but I also paid up for FIxYa chat, so just want to let you know that so that you might be able to benefit from that..

    by the way ... browser works partially (just one window) in Safe Mode. But, however,....System Restore does not work in Safe Mode.

    I opted to use Premium Chat as I needed a fix very quickly.

    The remedy proposed by Joe was sensible and I had tried it, but it did not fix the problem. The situation was that I had two PC's working fine and a Notebook that would not browse. In the end, rather embarrasingly, the remedy was to reboot the router and this cleared the problem on the notebook. I guess the fact that the other two PC's were working fine had the effect of misleading the diagnosis away from the router.

Hello Eugene!

Have you tried using an alternative browser, such as Firefox - which is more reliable and secure than Microsoft's Internet Explorer?

By the way, are you using the latest version of Interet Explorer (9 beta)? If not, get it from here as it might solve the problems with your existing version.

Also, if you'd like to continue using the IE browser, try repear/reinstall it, following the instructions here.
A more advanced solution will be uninstalling IE completely, then reinstall it... To do it, carefully follow the instructions here.

Check your firewall or Windows firewall, it may be blocking the internet,
WinsockFix is a great utility to reset and repair Winsock. It's probably the best and quickest fix for all connection problems. Read more:
Fix Winsock Manually on Windows 7

1. Open up the command line utility and enter:

netsh winsock reset catalog (resets winsock entries)
netsh int ip reset reset.log hit (resets TCP/IP stack)

2. Reboot your PC

Download this file and run it, right-click on winsockfix.bat and click on "Run as administrator".

Hi there,

Try changing the screen resolution your display screen might be having trouble supporting the resolution you are currently using. If this does not work try updating the video driver for your computer.

To change the screen resolution:

Win XP:

Right click on the desktop -> Choose PROPERTIES -> Click the SETTINGS tab and change the resolution click apply and then ok

Win Vista:

Right click Desktop -> Choose Personalize -> Change the screen resolution click apply and ok

Win 7:

Right click the Desktop -> Choose Screen Resolution -> change it and click apply and ok

If the above steps does not work try going to the sony vaio support site and download the updated driver for your Video Display.

I have sony vgn-cs215 with win7 os. but my AV MODE is note working and I am very much confused that which driver I want to download from the following link...

hi i recommend to download vaio update and it is only 4 MB size. once you download the tools it will get you all the update required by the laptop. Even your using win 7 it will download latest update make sure you enable auto update in Win 7. you will find the update tool in contol panel.
I hope this will resolve the issue.

Try installing the Camera Driver for the Windows Vista Operating System and this should work.
Download Superweb camera software to use camera.

Function keys may not work under Windows 7 Operating System. However, only in few cases, you can update the Video Driver, install the Sony Notebook Utilities, VAIO® Event Service Update to resolve the issue.

click on see all files and download and install the Drivers for the Windows 7.

First, make sure that the Kodak printer driver is properly installed in your Sony Vaio. Make sure that you can print while the Kodak is directly connected to Sony Vaio.

If you can print directly connected to it, try to reinstall the GPSU21 Utility.

You may want to try updating the drivers directly from the Sony site - be sure to get one for Win-7 (other drivers probably will NOT work!)
