actually, i found that the problem is cannon makes a series 8 cartridge M and a series 8 that is Mp (p for photo- since this is a photo printer, i thought it was right!) the Mp won't read in the printer. Maybe this will help someone else as well!

Hi there, I have a new Canon IP3500 printer and I went through all the setting up as instructed, however when I went to print something with red in it, the red was substituted with cyan. I thought it was a printer head problem and followed the relevant instructions to align printer heads etc and when it printed out there was pink on the page therefore magenta is coming out in tests but not when I print an image with red in it- can you help? Thx

I have a brand new Canon IP3500 printer which will not print anything with red in it. I went through the setting instructions and followed them, put all the ink cartridges in and all the red lights were flashing, then I closed the lid and opened it again and all the red lights stayed red, but when I tried to print an image with red in it the red came out blue!? I thought it might have been a printer head problem so I did a printer alignment test and there was red in it and it came out very clear and sharp so I don't know what to suggest, can you help? Thx

IP3500 won't print red. All the lights are on and everything appears to be functioning normally, except this. I was using a fully refilled cartridge from a service that resets the chip after refilling. I thought that might be the problem so I went out and spent $17 on a new Canon cartridge. Same result. No improvement. I bought this printer in June 2008, so it's a little early for grief like this.

My canon ip3500 needs to be reset.. How?

There are 2 ways to do that, the first is to reset it manually, the 2nd is to reset it using a resetter chip.

To reset it manually
1. Press and Hold the STOP/RESET button and wait until it self restart.
2. Release the STOP/RESET button then the printer is restarting.

To reset it using a resetter chip
go on this link to view the product and purchase it

Canon ip3500 does not print black but colour ok ... whats up ... how to fix

1. this could be a clogged print head at the black cartridge. the head needs cleaning or the jets have clogged ports and cannot pass ink due to hardened ink.
This may require a print head replacement.
2.If you have recently place a new cartridge in the print slot check to see if you didn't leave the protective tape on the cartridge.

The light for the magenta cartridge on my iP3500 printer goes off

The cartridge, as well as all ink jet cartridges has a chip inside that tells it how much ink is in the cartridge. Your cartridge is LYING, except it prevents you from printing without all cartridges working. ( same for my 6 color epson ). You need to replace the cartridge. I get my cartridges at a yahoo store called Inks4less. They have good quality for cheap.

There was a study done, analizing the amount of inks left in inkjet cartridges when they indicated empty, and the range was 7% to 25% ink still left.

CANON PIXIMA IP5300 cartrage problem

I can suggest you one thing. If you can't do it yourself, get a friend who can.
Make a small hole (using a drill) in a new cartridge. This hole should directly go to the ink cartridge. (Make sure you don't spill ink everywhere!) Make a similar hole in the old cartridge. Take a syringe and pull out some ink from the new cartridge. Put it into the old cartridge. If you can see the ink level, fill about half of the old cartridge this way. Close both holes. Now use the old cartridge in the printer!
(You can repeat this process whenever the old cartridge runs out of ink).
