Adjust the refresh rate of the display.

Click Start, click Control Panel, click Appearance and Themes, and then click Display Alternatively, right-click the desktop, and then click Properties.

You may have a intermittent cable that connects the motherboard to the lcd screen. Hook a external monitor to the video output on the back of your laptop to see if you have a clean picture, if you do suspect the cable or loose connection.

If the screen flickers, it means that the cable between the system board and the LCD is loose . You need to lift the keyboard and reseat the cable.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it and give a testimonial for my response. Happy New Year!

Thanks, Joe

SOURCE: My Gateway mx7118 lcd flickers whenever screen is opened, closed,

Connect an external monitor to the laptop and power it up, if you see a clear image on an external monitor, this means your video card is OK.

If you see a dim image or flicking image on the laptop's LCD screen it means you have a backlight problem.

Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.

SOURCE: The screen flickers when opening laptop.

It's one of two things, either it's the backlight inverter or it's the switch which tells the laptop the lid is closed.

The backlight inverter is what powers the lamps in the back of the screen. They aren't expensive, but a computer shop will probably charge you an arm and a leg to replace.

The switch tells it to turn the backlight off when the lids is down to save power.

If it's the switch, you can disconnect it by following this guide http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthre… and http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthre… according to that if it thinks the lid it will turn the blue touchpad LED orange to indicate the touchpad is locked.

Toshiba L300 screen flickers and backlight

Maybe is the backlight power cable cut. Try with the laptop in power on mode oppening VERY SLOWLY the screen to see if at a certain potition it works fine. Open it all the way up sometimes to check it. If thre is a potition that it works, it's the cable as I mentioned.
