Question about Gateway MX6428 Notebook
You may need to manually clear some startup items. Press the window like button on your keyboard and the letter "R" at the same time. It will load a small window. Type "MSCONFIG" in the open box without the " " then click on OK or RUN. Now click the "STARTUP" tab. You may try to uncheck all the items except for your Anti-Virus program and after that you may click on "SERVICES" tab. On the services tab you will see at the bottom left "HIDE ALL MICROSOFT SERVICES". Put a check mark beside it. Now you may uncheck all items except for your antivirus program and wireless program. Then click on apply and click OK or CLOSE. Then you may restart your computer. Check if your computer runs better. If it doesn't then your last option will be to add up some more memory and make it at least 2gb or higher.

You should be showing 1024 NOT 960, this has me thinking the RAM module in the stick is faulty, YES your system is upgradable to: 1024 MB DDR (2x 512 MB) SODIMM (PC2700) Expandable to 2 GB
I would ask you to get the 2 1 GIG sticks and you can put them in your self it's very easy and assessable thru the under side of your PC. You can get RAM and Best buy, Circuit City and almost anywhere that sells computer stuff.
