I use Cascade Complete and don't know what happened but the soap has congealed and I don't know how to remove it, dishes aren't coming out clean and I am assuming that it is not being dispensed properly.

Check that the holes in the spray arms haven't blocked up and the filters in the bottom are clean. The arms may not be rotating. To check this, when the machine is washing, open the door, turn all the spray arms to face the same direction, shut the door and leave running for about 30 seconds. Open the door again and look at the position of the spray arms. They should have moved.
Make sure your water temperature is hot enough to dissolve the soap. Generally, the water temp. should be 140 degrees. Run some hot water at the tap before you turn on the dishwasher. This will assure that hot water is in the dishwasher as soon as you start it. Be certain that there aren't any large pieces in front of the dispenser tray. Sometimes casserole dishes, frying pans or baking pans can block the door and prevent it from opening. Also, the sprayer arms might be clogged with bone fragments, peelings, bits of paper, etc. If this is the case, you'll need to remove the sprayer arm, flush and then check the jets. If you see "stuff" in the jets, they can be remove with tweezers. Finally, make sure the upper sprayer arm hose is securely seated with the tube in the back of the dishwasher that carries the water up to the sprayer arm hose. If these two are not seated correctly, the water will not travel into the sprayer arm hose, the sprayer arm will not turn and your dishes will not get clean! I hope this helps. Dishwasher SprayArms not Spinning
I had and solved this problem. First, this answer addresses only the congeal nature of Cascade and how to get it out. And you aren't going to like the answer. The easiest answer is to take the door apart and replace the bottle and you can't re-place the one you took off. You will need to order a few parts assuming that you can clean the bottle once you get it off. I did it without removing the bottle and it took hours. I used grass trimmer plastic wire and shoved it in the bottom tip of the bottle to break up the gel. I then used a long 'hemostat' to retrieve chunks from the large opening in the door. Imagine trying to grab one of these gelatin balls with a hemostat. It takes a careful touch. In between, I would pour hot water in and try to dissolve the gel. that didn't do much good. When I got a clean flow of water, i re-connected everything and purged the system per instructions a few times before putting things back together. This took hours beginning to end. And Cascade people at P&G tell me that it is from mixing two types of their product... one with enzymes and another with chlorine.... Who knows.
I have the same problem. It isn't because of a long vacation, so if its still under warranty, call them out before they try to charge you an arm and a leg!
I called GE, they told me that it was Cascade's fault because they changed their formula to phosphate free and when I refilled the smart despenser, it congealed. When I called Cascade, they offered to send me a voucher for a free container of Cascade and they gave me a number to call GE saying that I wouldn't have to pay for the service call and that they would walk me through how to get it cleaned out. I then called GE and I was told by GE that I will have to pay the $100 for them to even come out and look at it because I have owned it for 14 months. (2 months past the warranty.)
I am still calling back and forth telling them both that I shouldn't have to pay for a service visit because I used the recommended Cascade detergent and it clogged it. Both of them are finger pointing.
I am in the process of trying to clean it out myself without taking it all apart, and its not looking like it will work. I had to get a wet vac and **** it all up, put water in, slosh it around by moving the door up and down, and by pushing a long straw in trying to break up the clotted detergent.
Good luck. If I find anything that will for sure get it cleaned up, I'll post it on here!
It might be a bad dishwashing soap. I know the cascade complete works best and all others seem to take a 2nd or worse place. Try a diff. liquid and see what happens.
depending were you live they changed the formula in cascade, but they are doin a new formula are you using a rinse agent? claean the machine clean spray arms and soap dispencer, with no dishes run machine with 1cup of CLR or 2Cup of vinegar just pour in tub and let it run full cycle no drying. Thanks
You don;t list the make and model number or its aproximate age.
The simpelest cause is switching to an ultra-cheap dry detergent. Recommed you use a name brand powder (like Electrosol or Cascade) Never use gel or tablets, ever.
Check all spray arms for blockages. Now is a good time to remove the filter (non trivial but do-able on most dishwashers.)
Clean empty dishwasher by filling a bowl or large cup with white vinegar and placing it in the dish rack. Run a short cycle with no detergent added. You may need to repeat.
If problems persist, the pump motor is probably failing. Schedule a service call or consider replacement of DW. Good Luck!
