Wacky! It sounds like your browser had some issue with Flash, which is what a lot of sites use to play sound. Double-check your browser's plugins for Flash 9 to be listed, and reinstall it from Adobe.com as necessary; on the other hand, maybe you just installed a flash-blocker and haven't gotten used to it or read up on its operation yet.
