If you take the remote apart and wash it in clean water then leave in the airing cupboard to dry before powering it up again.
That may work.

My remote control works whenever it wants to i changed the batteries and everything whats causing this problem and how do i fix it?

Probably something spilled inside the remote. Most remotes are snapped together. Using a thin knife or similar tool carefully pry it alart. Use a q tip and rubbing alcohol to clean the circuit board and the rubber keypad contacts. Let dry and reassemble.

Batteries were wrongly corrected but all buttons nowproduce a 7

Either something was spilled onto the remote, or the remote itself is malfunctioning. You can try to remove the batteries, pop open the case with a flat head screw driver, clean the rubber buttons/electrical board with q-tips dipped in rubbing alcohol; or buy a new remote for under $20.

Remote nonfunctional...Why would that happen (no kids, retired couple, not used that much). New battery no help. Is there something I can do to fix it?I suppose I have to buy a new remote?

Try fixing your remote controller
Take off the battery, open the back of your remote, lift the circuit board, clean the green painted part with cotton balls slightly damp with rubbing alcohol as well as the black thingy behind your remote pad, let it dry put it back together, replace with a new battery and try if it works.

Remote control for VCR won't work so I Tried to fix it by taking it apart and cleaning with alcohol.Still doesn't work and now it is hot where the batteries are. Can't get a new one as the RCA VCR was made...

I think you have lost your precious Remote because you don't do it by yourself if you have not any experience about electronics. You made a mistake to wash it out with alcohol and i think you didn't give time to dry it.And moisture was still there and you you connect batteries with it too. That's why you feel hot.It means that a short circuit has been occurred in it.My advise is to contact any expert nearby to you and avoid any new experiment on it.It can be repaired yet.
