Hi
check whether the card reader and memory card works or not.
if ok. do a virus scan using anti-virus that proved its effectiveness.

You don't need to download anything. Just format the memory card to recreate the DCIM folder.

I cant find the DCIM folder in my polaroid camera

The camera will create that folder on a memory card when you use it. Do you mean you can't find that file on the card or when you plug in the camera with no card in it?
If it isn't on the card, in the menu options of the camera you can format the card and the internal camera memory, save your pictures first of course.
Formatting the internal memory of the camera and taking a picture should restore the DCIM folder.
And make sure the SD card is unlocked, there is a little slide switch on the side of it.

FORMATTING WILL ERASE EVERYTHING SAVE YOUR PICS FIRST!

If you cannot find the DCIM folder you may still have pics stuck on the card and/or camera, look into file recovery before you format anything.

I also do file recovery by the way.

Pics gone in DCIM folder. Using a Nikon s3000 coolpix camera, connected to computer, F:\s3000 is detected, within it is DCIM folder present, and within DCIM folder presents Nikon100 and Nikon101 folders,...

You cannot create new folders on an SD card and copy images to them, as the camera will not recognise them, since they were not create in the camera. Copy the entire contents of the card to a folder on your HDD, then format the card in the camera.

What if I erased the...DMCI folder in my memory card? I can no limport my pictures in my desktop because there is nothing in my memory card..

Hi,

It is not recommended to erase the DCIM Folder in the Camera as this is the root directory in the Digital Camera which contains DCIM (Digital Camera images). This DCIM Folder contains the sub directory where the images are getting saved. if the folder is deleted manually from the Computer, then the Camera will not recognize the Memory Stick inserted and the Computer also. if the folder is deleted or edited, then I suggest you to Format the Memory Stick again in the Camera using the Format option in the Menu of the Camera.

Thanks for using Fixya.

Hi i have a Sony Cyber Shot digital camera model no is DSC W55 and i am using Scandisk M2 2 GB. When i plug it in via USB to a computer it shows shortcut file for DCIM & MSIC. Is my card infected?...

the card has been used previously in a cellphone, the MSIC folder is the music folder and the dcim is your actual pictures.save all your pics in a folder on your desktop, disconnect your camera and format the card using the settings menu of your camera, there you goa clean memory card:))

Picture folder won't open

If the DCIM folder is where the camera keeps its images, then you have no images on the card.

Otherwise, have a browse through the memory card for another folder. The folders are named differently depending on your camera. My Pentax keeps them in "DCIM", but Kodak (for example) might keep them in a different folder.

Downloading the photographs

To download without the software, you will need either the usb cord that came with the camera, or a memory card reader for your computer. For the first step, plug the camera into the computer and camera via the usb cable provided. put the camera in playback mode and turn it on. If you use a memory card reader, remove the card from the camera and insert it into the proper slot on the reader.
Now for PC users - go to 'my computer' (vista its just 'computer') and under 'media with removable devices' you should see the camera come up (or memory card folder). double click, and then you should see a folder that says DCIM. Click and drag that folder onto your desktop. Congrats, you just transfered your photos. Now the folder DCIM on your desktop should be opened and the folders within DCIM contain your images. Sort the photos in whatever way makes sense to you (most likely to be in my pictures (under my documents)). Be sure to delete the DCIM folder off the desktop AFTER you moved all of the images into their proper folders...otherwise next time you try to do this, there will be a conflict with folders named DCIM. This method keeps the images on your memory card. If you would like to remove them, after you re-insert the card into your camera, turn on the camera, press menu, go to the set-up screen (yellow) and go to format - this will erase every picture on your card and make a new slate for when you take new pics.
