Dear sammystevo,
I think it means that you have to plug your iPod in to your pc/Mac and connect it to iTunes: wich can be downloaded here:http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
If this is not the case then do the following:

  1. Press the power (on top) and home/springboard button (center, bottom) together untill the Apple logo pops up. When it pops up, just release, and wait for a few minutes/seconds.

  2. Problem wasn't solved with n° 1? Well there is a second way, but i got to warn you it may cause your iPod to delete all music and photos etc. Just plug your ipod in to iTunes and click on your iPod on the left and, press repair.
Kind regards: FriskYR

The screen of the ipod shows a usb cord and an arrow pointing to the itunes icon. when i plug the ipod up to my computer, it is not recognized.

It sounds like you either reset your iPod to factory settings, OR you just bought a new iPod! Either way your iPod is telling you to connect it to a computer with iTunes on it.
Step 1: Go to http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ and download iTunes.
Step 2: After it is done downloading, install iTunes by double clicking the file you just downloaded. When a screen pops up with a button labeled "Next", continue clicking it until you reach the "Finish" button.
Step 3: iTunes should automatically open up, if not, open it from your Start menu, or desktop.
Step 4: Connect your iPod. After a few minutes, iTunes will prompt you with a Welcome Screen with a picture of an iPod, follow the on screen directions and you will be able to use your iPod.

Why does my new ipod have a picture of a USB cable, and an arrow pointing to the itunes icon on the screen and won't go away?

You probably got yourself a new iPod!
What the screen is trying to tell you is that you should sync your iPod to iTunes. To do that:
Step 1: Go to http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ and click download to download iTunes.
Step 2: Once it is downloaded, find where you have saved the file, and double-click it.
Step 3: Continue by pressing next through each screen until you reach the end screen (the one where there is a finish button).
Step 4: Connect your iPod to the computer with the USB cable that came with your iPod.Follow the on screen instructions. You should now be able to use your iPod!

I turned on my ipod touch as soon as i got it out of the case and it showed a usb cord and then an arrow above it pointing to itunes and i dont know how to get it off

nothing is wrong this is really the norm...you must have the very newest version of Itunes on your PC http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ then attach that white cable to both the PC/ IPOD....

this is how you will get rid of that arrow and stuff... and begin to enjoy your touch

My ipod wont load up

OK, all new iPods need to be plugged into iTunes before you can use them. So,here's what you need to do, take your iPod and using the USB cable that came with it, plug it in to your computer. This will charge it. Next, you have to have iTunes 8 downloaded and installed onto your computer, click here to download it. Once you have this done this, keep your iPod plugged in, and iTunes should prompt you to go through a set up, go through it. Then you should be good to go!
I really hope this helps! -cj

On the ipod touch the itunes icon comes out and is a usb cable with an arow pointing to the itunes icon

make sure you're USB is unplugged. when you're at the screen with the itunes symbol and the usb arrow, hold down the home and sleep button until the screen goes black, at this point, keep holding for another 10 seconds. at this point your screen should look black as if the ipod is off. connect to the computer and itunes shoulds show a message like "itunes has just discovered an ipod in recovery mode" you'll be able to do a restore and regain use of your touch.
if this does not work, message me back.

get on your laptop download itunes if you don't already have it... then connect your ipod touch to the usb port. After that itunes will come up... just follow the instructions... once all that is done... disconnect your ipod and start adding music to your itunes then connect your ipod touch again to load your music into your ipod.
