Sounds to me that the printer will need servicing at canonusa.com.

http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/printers_multifunction/pixma_mp_series/pixma_mp530?pageKeyCode=25

By the way, I didn't find a pixma mp540 but the closest was the mp530.

Double check that the error isn't 6C10. I also thought I had an 8C10 error also and that's how I found your unanswered question! But I couldn't find any other internet reference to 8C10 but I did find a YouTube fix for a 6C10 error message. So I got my reading glasses and looked again. Sure enough it was a 6C10 error! I followed the instructions for the 6C10 error fix (resetting Ink Absorber Reset) and my printer is now functioning. Bonus note: My printer is a MP620 and the reset was for a MP550. Same error number though! and also same solution. By now your printer has probably crossed that printer rainbow bridge... but hopefully someone else will need your help? With my reset, I am going to run my $$$ ink cartridges out instead of maintenancing the absorber and then toss mine as well!

Your computer will be showing an error code, probably 4 digits. Also the green and orange lamps will be flashing in a set sequence, ie green flashes 4 times and orange 5 times. the sequence of flashing lights is more accurate than the error code. Please come back and tell us what they are.

Hello thanks for using FixYa

Error 5100 means that the cartridge can not be detected by the printer. Actually the printer is not actually loading the cartridge and showing you the error 5100.

To solve these follow the following steps. I hope it works
  • Turn off printer
  • Remove both the cartridges from the printer
  • Use a clothe moistened with alcohol to clean the surface contact on the cartridges where the terminals inside the printers touches
  • Return the cartridges
  • Turn on the printer.
Error will be removed
I hope this solution will helpful for you
Please don't forget to click on Four thumbs which are given below & then write testimonial for my appreciation if it is helpful

Error shows on the MX870's screen saying, "Printer Error has occured. Turn off power then back on again. If problem persists, see the manual." Printer was restarted, and the message still shows.

Look in your manual under troubleshooting. If you do not have the manual, reply to this message with the make of your printer and we may be able to locate a downloadable manual for you.

Error message comes up saying "printer error has ocurred. Turn off power then back on again. If problem persists see manual" and there is nothing in the manual about it. I have a brand new Cannon Pixma...

Not a good start, there is a sensor in the printer reporting an error, Cannons objective in asking you to turn off the printer and turn it back on is to reset the sensor, however if the error persists it is not a faulty sensor reading but a actual fault. The only added suggestion I can make is to step through the installation again ensuring you have removed all internal packaging from the printer and all protective packaging from the ink tanks. After that and as the machine is new you need to contact Canon directly and explain the problem to them, there will always be a percentage of machines which roll off the production line with a fault. I only have the US contact details if that is not applicable you will have to check online for your own country

Message error 6A80. Comes up with "printer error has ocurred. please turn off printer then back on again. if problem persists see manual" manual has nothing in it.

6A80 error is an APP position error caused by the APP motor during the purging operation as the printer starts up. Canon states that one of three components is likely to have failed, the sheet feed unit, purge unit or logic board. All of these will be almost impossible to get as a spare part. The only thing worth trying is an EEPROM reset that can be done using the service manual. Get a copy here: http://www.tradebit.com/filedetail.php/4981053-canon-pixma-mp520-printer-service-manual

Problem with, HP Officejet 4315, serial no: CN74DG1113. The screen message on printer states cartridge error. The cartridge has been changed twice. Reinstalled cartridge many times, same message appears....

Asalam u alaikum Naveed
as u r getting the cartridge error the first thing to be checked is the expiration date on the cartridges, then take a moist cloth and clean the copper contacts on the cartridge keep the printer powered on and unplug the power cable from the back of the printer and clean the contacts on the printer as well connect the power cable and put the cartridges back.
If the issue still persists then unplug the power cable again
Press and hold # and 6 on the printer while keeping these tow buttons on hold plug the power cable back in . when the screen goes off release the buttons and press the power button to turn the printer on. it ll perform a semiful reset on the printer .
if the issue still persists then unplug the power cable again
Press and hold OK and CANCEL on the printer while keeping these two buttons on hold plug the power cable back in . when the screen goes off release the buttons and press the power button to turn the printer on .
If the issue still persists call HP CARE they ll replace the printer.

Good luck
:-)
