Sounds like on of the thermostats have gone out. Check the thermostats with a multimeter for continuity. Here is a link to the parts you may need. Below is a video to show you how to diagnose the problem.

Sounds like the 20m mixed frequency is slightly off tune in the front end and doesn't match the tuning knob setting. This likely needs a bit of tweaking of an oscillator to put it on the straight and narrow of the IF system.

My dryer has not been shutting off by itself. Last night the dryer ran all night. It should have stopped after 20m minutes. The clothes were very very warm. I'm concerned this could have started a fire....

Either the timer is faulty or the moisture sensor has failed. Do not use until you have had it checked.
What make/model is it? Hard to give advice without the info!

DRYER KEEPS OVERHEATING AND SHUTTING OFF and wont start

Dryers have several Thermal couplers that open the circuits to shut down when they get too hot.
I would take it to a dealer to be repaired. or If you know what you are doing you might want to clean all the lint out of the dryer and heating coils being very careful not to break one, and try it after cleaning the lint on the inside of the heating coils of the dryer....Note: make sure you unplug the dryer first you might get electricuted working on it plugged in to the 220 volts AC.

Good luck and be careful...

yeah but its unsafe specially with kids! it could stay running if the door was open and wont stop unless you turn the knob or unplug it. thats if it was bypassed.

Dryer wont run

Remove the rear cover and replace the skinny white fuse mounted on the blower housing after you have cleaned out the lint from the dryer. (unless you like to keep buying and replacing them)
