You need to ensue your regional settings are correct, as it sounds like your keyboard mapping is messed up.

Open the control panel > Date, Time, Language, and Regional Options > Regional and Language options.
Then make sure ALL the drop downs are correct for your country
1.Standards and Format - Regional options tab
2.location - Regional options tab
3.Languages tab > Details Button > settings tab > Default input language
4.Advanced tab top drop down.

Good luck ! if you think your problem solved don't forget to rate

My Satellite A100 laptop has no numerric key pad so how can I type special characters?

you should have numbers on the keyboard which you can access using the Fn button... you can also use these without the FN button by htting the NumLock button, then use as normal keypad....
other that that try using the Alt button and the Fn with the corresponding digits. So hold down Alt, FN and tap the corresponding digits/letters on the keyboard.

If you need to use a numpad a lot, then can purchase a USB numpad - often included with USB kits from gadget shops.

Hold down the laptop's "0" key and press the power button.

Keep the key held down during the boot up process until the "Toshiba Recovery Wizard" window loads on the screen.

Click the check box labeled "Recovery of Factory Default Software." Choose the "Next" option.

Hi icsisayanir,

Follow the instruction below to help you restore your laptop to the factory settings.

1) Turn on the computer.

2) As the computer starts, press 'F8' on the keyboard until the Advanced Boot Options menu appears on the screen.

NOTE: You must press 'F8' before the Windows logo appears on the screen. If you press 'F8' after the Windows logo appears on the screen, the Advanced Boot Options menu will not appear on the screen.

3) Press the 'Down Arrow' on the keyboard to select Repair Your Computer on the Advanced Boot Options menu, and then press 'Enter'.

4) Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the factory restore.

5) When the restore operation is completed, click Finish to restart the computer. Now your computer is restored to the default factory configuration.

NOTE: You can restore the laptop only if there is a Recovery Partition and/or if you haven't deleted it.

If this information was helpful, please rate it.

Thank you for using fixya,

Keyboard malfunction

Most laptop keyboards use some letters of the right hand as numpad.
You must see some numbers in blue color over that letters.
This is why those letters write numbers when you turn on the Numpad.

Toshiba satellite note book

Your laptop keyboard has a modern emulated numpad. It acts like the numpad on a regular keyboard (since there clearly isn't room for one on your lappy).
Make sure that you are not holding the Fn key while typing, and most important, turn off Numlock. (There should be a button for it on your keyboard and a light that shows if it's on accordingly, the light should have a number and lock logo on it).
Hope this helps! Stay spicy and happy lappying!
