Question about Abit NF8-V Motherboard

3 Answers

I would appreciate if someone could tell me what video cards are supported by NF8-V motherboard. I have RAEDON 9550 AGP video card and a wish for a better one. A game i was looking requires: ATI Radeon® 9800 PRO video card. Assuming that the required video card is better than the one i have, i was hoping if any of you guys could tell me at least where can i look up for video cards that my motherboard supports.

I checked your motherboard specs. The Radeon 9800 PRO will definitely work with AMD Athlon 64 platform.

ABIT NF8-V uses AMD Socket 754, but also has NVIDIA material built in, which means that you aren't limited to just ATI Graphics Cards just because it's an AMD product. That said, you can use any PCI-E Graphics Card.

I would suggest before you just up and purchase a video card that you find out which video card is most suitable for your style of gaming. You can do this by visiting http://www.yougamers.com/

Search for the Game you want to play, the let it scan you system. It will provide you with a list of what you should upgrade to get the best experience possible.

Can I use a AGP 8X ATI Radeon 9550 256MB 128bit Video Card in my pc?

No. The mainboard you are listing is not capable of AGP cards. AGP cards have gone the way of the dinosaur. Modern mainboards do not have AGP-compatible slots anymore, only PCIE 1x, 8x, and 16x slots.

I have asrock p4i45gv r5.0 motherboard and want to ask if it supports ati raedon 6850 graphics card or not?

The AsRock P4I45GV revision 5.0 motherboard uses an Intel 845GV motherboard chipset.
There is one AGP slot on the motherboard, used for a graphics card.

http://www.asrock.com/MB/overview.asp?Model=P4i45GV%20R5.0

2) Information on the Intel 845GV chipset,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_intel_chipsets#Pentium_4_chipsets

Looking down the column on the left side until we come to - 845GV, and looking across, we see under the heading Graphics that Integrated Graphics is supported. No mention of AGP support.

But AsRock has implemented it's own technology of A.G.I. at an 8x speed.
(For the Intel 845GV chipset)

A.G.I.
AsRock Graphic Interface,

http://www.asrockamerica.com/AGI8x.htm

This means that graphics cards that use the AGP 8X technology, or AGP 4X technology, can be used. (AGP4X/8X)

Advanced Graphics Port,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AGP

Using Sapphire's version of the ATI Radeon 6850 as an example, we can see this graphics card uses the newer technology - PCI-Express

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102908

(Doesn't natter WHO makes it, the graphics card is still based on the ATI G.P.U.
Graphics Processing Unit. Or in slang terminology; the graphics chipset)

It also uses the newest version of PCI-Express, the PCI-Express 3.0 technology.

Information on PCI-Express,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PCI_Express

Short answer to your question?
No

Your AsRock motherboard is set up to support AGP graphics cards that use either the AGP 4X technology, or AGP 8X technology.

Does not support graphics cards based on the PCI-Express technology.

One AGP (Accelerated Graphics Port) 8x/4X slot. First is the Nvidia Geforce Fx 5500 256MB and the second is ATI Radeon™ 9550. These two video cards are supported by your motherboard. Have a nice day.

Depends on the video card ,it might require more power ,200w is fine for onboard but add other components and the system needs more power.
Disconnect the harddrive or CD ROM drive and see if the system will start.
If it starts then you will need more power 300-400w at least but shuttle power supplies can be expensive to get.

Video card

The MSI KT4V motherboard is an AGP board supporting 4x/8x AGP. You cannot use a newer PCI-Express Video Card, however an Nvidia GeForce FX 5500 either PCI or AGP will run just fine in it. The NVidia FX 5500 doesn't come in PCI-E. Additionally The ATI Radeon 9550 doesn't come PCI-E so you should be safe with AGP versions of either. I should note however, that you'll get better performance out of the ATI Radeon 9550 as opposed to the NVidia FX 5500.

I hope this answers your question,

Intel P$ 1.8 mhz on a D845HV/D845WN board

Before removing your current card swap video outputs on the PC. If currently connected to the VGA output switch to the HDMI connector AT the video card. Use the HDMI to VGA adapter that came with the video card. Check & see if the display loads Pc starts. Taking the information directly from your motherboard manual pg. 25, your AGP video can only run at, AGP supporting 1.5 V 4X AGP cards. The 9600pro runs at 8x & it is not backwards compatible. (able to run at either 8x or 4x). You could run the Sappire ATI Radeon 256MB 9550 DDR AGP 4x/8x 1.5volt card.
Here is one site: http://www.colordrives.com/sapphire-ati-radeon-9550-256mb-ddr-agp-4x-8x-video-card---retail-box.html
When you do get the video card be sure to set your bios AGP to the correct size as listed in your manual pg. 109 subsection 4.4.7
I hope this helped.
