Fan runs but will not boot

This is wrongly listed under Gateway LX6810 which may be why it remians unanswered. If the HP media center works anything like my Gateway, the problem may be in the power switch. Mine had 4 wires running off it, 2 going to the motherboard, 2 running up to the media center (which in my case was a bear to see without removing the hard drive and a few other things).
Replacing the switch inclusive of all 4 new wires, solved the problem. The connectors on these are very delicate and can break off internally in the switch where you can't see them,

How Do I remove the cover from a Gateway 500 series???

Like this Gateway SE?

http://support.gateway.com/s/PC/2800071/280007101.shtml

On the back of the computer remove the screw from the top middle.
Now remove the screw on each outside edge, down towards the bottom.

Hold the outside shell, or computer cover. Push the inside forward.
The computer cover comes off like a shell, or bonnet.

http://support.gateway.com/s/PC/2800050/280005003.shtml

If this is a reference to a Gateway 500X series, remove the thumb screw/s from the back of the computer, on the right side. (Right side as you are facing the back of the computer) Then slide this Side Panel towards the back of the computer.

Gateway 500x upgrade ram installation.

hi! there if your addibg a memory card check your memory speed if match to other memory card that are installed already, they should have same speed e.g DDR PC228 or SDR PC333 so check this out before installing. But if you replace the older one upgrading, switch off your computer open cover, there is slot there for your memory card bedide your processor,at both end there a lockway, unlock your memory card and pull it out all if you have several one, then insert on one slot if that is one memory card at 2gb lock it on both end.then swich on your computer check this out on your computer properties if there is change.how to do this left click my computer, click properties.regards
