Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

My netbook will suddenly become frozen while the harddisk LED go off. All buttons become irresponsive except the F11 key (Wi Fi on/off). This may happen even when the harddisk temp. is as low as 38。C. Usually, I can disconnect the netbook's power and restart it again and it could usually resume normal function, but I am worried with my harddisk's lifespan if this keep rerurring. Any suggestion please?

try cleaning your computer of dust using a fine air blower from a compressor making VERY sure that there is no?MOISTURE in the air line dust causes static to build up in a computer causing it to overheat any many other problems
then
try uninstalling a few unnecessary programs then click start run type cmd then type chkdsk/r/f which will scan for and attempt to fix any bad sectors and automatically fix any corrupt files on your hard drive then defragment your hard drive
hope this helps

There are a number of reasons why you may not get a wi-fi connection:

  1. No connection available
  2. Poor signal strength
  3. Wi-fi on device not turned on
  4. Faulty wi-fi driver in device
  5. Using wrong wi-fi security password
  6. Router has your MAC address blocked
  7. Faulty wi-fi module in device

If you can give specifics on what you have tried and what the results are we may be able to narrow down the possibilities.

How do i factory reset lenovo twist ultrabook?

Dan,

Try these steps:
  • Boot the computer
  • As you see the Thinkpad Logo, Hit the "F11" key continuously until the recovery system appears. From there follow the instruction to get your machine back to Factory state.
I've also included a link to the direct Lenovo support page for your laptop. Please let me know if this helps. Take care and have a great day!

I have a msi u130 netbook keeps saying wirless capabillity is turned off after pressing the F11 any ideas

The key combination for turning the wi-fi on-off is the Fn+F11 (not just the F11). In case this is not working you might have problems with the drivers. Use this official link and choose your op. system (win xp or win 7) and download the wi-fi drivers.

My laptop has no wireless switch. I want to put wireless on.

On the bottom left of your keyboard you should find a key marked Fn. On the top right of your keyboard you should find a key marked F11 with a little blue antenna icon on it. While pressing the Fn key, press the F11 key once. this should turn on your wi-fi radio.

If it doesn't, chances are your wi-fi is disabled in BIOS.

  • Make sure the computer is turned off.
  • Press the ON button.
  • Immediately press the F2 key.
  • This should get you into BIOS configuration page.
  • Highlight the "Wireless" option & press space.
  • Highlight the "Wireless Devices" option.
  • In the top middle of your screen you should have a check-box labelled "Enable Internal Wireless WLAN".
  • Make sure this is checked (not empty).
  • Chose the EXIT button (bottom right).
  • The computer will reboot.
  • Your wi-fi should now be on.
Hope this helps.

How to i get a wireless wap key for my netbook. I want to use it in hotspots in uk

The WPA key is the encryption key to secure the wireless router from unauthorized access.
You do not need this key to connect into free wi-fi hotspots at the airport, MacDonalds, Starbucks etc. When you detect these wi-fi sites you can just click the connect button.

Wi fi button

Look carefully on your "Function" keys example, F1, F2, F3 to F12 that are located above your keyboard. On each function keys, there is an icon. One of those is wi-fi. Find which function key has the wi-fi icon then find key to activate those functions. It is called "Fn" key (located in the bottom of your keyboard near "Ctrl" or "Alt"). Now press and hold "Fn" + "F#" then release. This should turn on your wi-fi. On mine, I have wi-fi on "F8" so I would press "Fn" + "F8".

Linksys WRT160 router doesn't work

Wi-Fi Protected Setup Button
If you have client devices, such as wireless adapters, that
support Wi-Fi Protected Setup, then you can
use Wi-Fi Protected Setup to automatically
configure wireless security for your wireless
network(s).

To use Wi-Fi Protected Setup, run the Setup
Wizard, or refer to the “Wireless > Basic Wireless
Settings” section of “Chapter 3: Advanced
Configuration".

Wi-Fi Protected Setup LED (Blue/Amber) It
lights up blue when wireless security is
enabled. The LED flashes blue for two
minutes during Wi-Fi Protected Setup.
The LED lights up amber if there is an error
during the Wi‑Fi Protected Setup process. Make
sure the client device supports Wi‑Fi Protected
Setup. Wait until the LED is off, and then try again.
The LED flashes amber when a Wi‑Fi Protected
Setup session is active, and a second session
begins. The Router supports one session at a
time. Wait until the LED is off before starting the
next Wi-Fi Protected Setup session.

Wireless no longer works

1st Solution:
Check if the wi-fi card is properly installed under Device Manager. Go to Start then look for Control Panel on the right pane. Under Control Panel look for System and Maintenance and then click on Device Manager. Now under Device Manager look for Network Adapters and collapse or click the arrow next to it. Check if your wi-fi adapter is installed(10/100 or 10/1000 is your LAN adapter, wi-fi adapters usually indicates something like 802.11x(could be agn or g or b) or the word "wireless". If you don't see anything I mentioned above that means your computer is unable to detect any wi-fi adapters installed. Know if you found a wi-fi adapter but there is a yellow exclamation or question mark, all you have to do is re-install the drivers for your wi-fi adapter(you can download the drivers on the Compaq website for free.)

2nd Solution:
Check if the wi-fi is disabled or stopped, if you have a bulit in wi-fi adapter on your laptop they have a wi-fi switch on the side or near the function keys(F1, F2, F3 up to F12). Wi-fi button/switch will have a logo or marking of an antenna that has waves coming out of it and there is a LED light that will indicate if its on or off(for Comapaq laptops it's either a blue button at the front, near the function keys or at the front panel on the buttom edge.

If both fails then you may need to contact Compaq for further assistance.

Hope this will help you fixin the wi-fi problems on your laptop.

Regards
