I have a Linksys wireless-G 2.4 GHz router directly connected to my PC. I've just bought a MacBook Pro and want to go online via this router. The Macbook finds the router but cannot connect to internet. What can I do??

Do you know what Wireless authentication protocol you are using on your Linksys? You might want to use an open (no authentication) protocol, as a means of testing connectivity. If it works with no authentication, then I would suggest switching to a different protocol such as WPA or WPA2 (not sure what protocols macs use, but I would guess that WPA/WPA2 are supported protocols)

The reason you cannot connect, is you have to match the settings from your router to Airport- usually it requires you setting the security on your router to a specific WPA2, Wep, or no security- invariably I have had trouble getting clients to get online with the WPA2 set to the either or setting- but set it to either public or private- they're online. Anyhow, in order to do that- you will need to log into your router- if you have a pc/mac hard wired into the linksys via ethernet, open a web browser window and go to 192.168.1.1- it would be under wireless security. Match the settings on your Macbook, you should be able to go wireless at that point. Another solution, depending on your internet service provider... is that the provider could share your system remotely and assist with getting you online wirelessly (I know for a fact that Verizon DSL Business does do this. )

Is too short for her MacBook Pro. -Thanks.

I would recommend purchasing a newer router that is more powerful. The Apple Airport Extreme is a fantastic router. If none of these choices work then you can either connect your Macbook via ethernet or move it closer to your router. here is the Apple Airport Extreme. http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC340LL/A/AirPort-Extreme?mco=MTY3ODQ5OTY

Bought wireless router without software

ec1.images-amazon.com/media/i3d/01/.../MANUAL000000300.pdf

Yo do NOT need special software, you simply access the unit via the Ethernet port and a Browser. It is all shown how to do it in the manual above.
You log into the router by typing in it's address and a default log on and password, Then you setup your connection, as i said please use the manual.
You need your Logon details and your password for your INTERNET connection,

Unable to connect to the internet using a linksys wireless adapter. Connects to the router but can't find the internet.

Isolate the issue by directly connecting the PC to the router via ethernet cable (if possible).

If you were able to get online while hardwired connected to the router, then check the IP address of the wireless network connection, check the wireless security if the network key matches.

If you cannot get online while hardwired to the router, then directly connect the computer to the modem.

If you were able to get online while directly connected to the modem, then the problem is the internet settings on the router. Check the WAN configuration, such as DHCP or PPPoE.

If you cannot get online when directly connected to the modem, then you will need to contact your Internet Service Provider.

Unable to connect wireless

Since you are unable to go via wireless, follow these steps:

1) Access your router configuration pages by typing in 192.168.1.1 into your web browser.
2) Click the tab that says Wireless.
3) Make sure the wireless broadcast option is enabled. If it isn't, enable it and select save settings.
4) Set up the wireless network through your Vista PC by going to Start > Network.
5) At the top of the window, select add a wireless device. Follow the onscreen instructions to add your Linksys Wireless Access Point.
6) Once added, right click on Wireless-G Router (name varies) and select configure. Follow the onscreen instructions to configure your router. (You can find your router pin by following steps 1-2 and selecting Wi-Fi Protected Set up.)
7) Once completed, attempt to connect to the internet via wireless router.

Networking a Printer on a wireless network

Deanna, if the mfc is not that old, take it back to the dealer and ask for changing it to a wireless printer (extension: CW). Do you really need the fax function? If not, try this printer: DCP 750CW. If yes, get the MFC 845 CW. The CN printer have to be connected directly to router or pc/laptop.
