Question about Ovens

We have a KitchenAid Superba gas range. It is displaying "control lock" and won't respond to attempts to start the oven. We've tried unplugging it for several minutes, and holding down the 3/control lock button for 30 seconds, without success. HELP US PLEASE

No, there is no other error code. We already tried killing the power for a couple of minutes.

  • twjredd Jan 01, 2011

Thanks for the tip. Unfortunately it didn't work, at 5 or 10 or 30 seconds. Any other suggestions, or do you know how we can get access to the manual, or how to check the connections for the control panel? The clock and timer are o.k. and the burners work, just the oven controls are locked out.

Hello again, thanks for your two latest replies. The model # is KGST307BBL2, Ser.#IM60673167, and the label reads "Part No.9781028", presumably for the oven? rather than for the label. To be clear, we tried holding down the 3/control lock button for 5 sec. and for various times up to 30 sec., none of which helped.

Thanks for trying, M. Turcotte. If you could send the manual that would be appreciated, since it may help with further steps and for future reference. Please do let the other experts have a crack at it. Can they pick up this whole thread from the blog?

Please send it to . Thanks again.

KitchenAid Model KGST307BBL2 gas oven displays "control lock" and won't allow oven function input; clock and timer and burners o.k.; tried breaker off, unplugging, and holding down "Start" and "3/control lock" buttons(separately)for extended times. Please help. If connection check is next step, how is it best done?

Hi

As you have already tried unlocking it by holding the control lock button and it still won't work then I believe the issue is with the Electronic Oven Control that is bad and should be replaced. Hope this helps...please post back for further assistance.

Hi, the manual says to Touch and hold START or START/ADD A MINUTE for approximately 5 seconds, to unlock the controls. Have you tried that?

Hi again. If I have the right manual now, try holding down the "3" button for 5 seconds. If this works, I can send you the rest of the "Hidden Codes"

Sorry, I should have saw that in your original post. I have the manual, but it doesn't have any additional information about the control panel. I can send the manual if you like, or you can access the manual here if you register on the site: https://secured.whirlpool.com/Service/Sr...$FILE/4317169.pdf

Please send a brief reply to reset the problem and I will release your question to other FixYa experts.

Sorry I was not able to help. :o(

Hi,

Is there any error codes that you might have seen such as PF or FX-EX ( where X could be any number )?

If yes, let me know the exact error code?

Go to the breaker box and kill the power to the range and count to 30 and flip it back on hard and tell me if it unlocks?

Let me know,so that we could proceed.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

My display reads F5:E7 on a Kitchenaid Superba stove. email cmaffey@hotmail.com

Well, its 10:30 on a Saturday night, and I was so frustrated by my Kitchenaid Oven. I set it to clean, but afterwards it would not unlock. the display read F5:E7, which i found out means the door unlocker won't work.

So, how did i fix it, well there are two ways, to get your oven door open.

I only found this out after tinkering for 2 hours, and found the easiest way to get your oven going again:

Pull your range out so you can see behind it. You will see a rod in the upper center part of the oven. There is a cutout in the metal and you can see the solenoid that locks the oven. It is connected to a rod. This rod is what goes to the front of the oven and is what is keeping your door locked. Simply move that rod the opposide direction, it will click, and presto, your door is now open.

I never bothered to replace the solenoid, because I didn't know if it was bad, or the controller board. The Solenoid itself is $90, I don't want to even guess what the control board is.

So, not technically a fix, but it will get your oven open. Just don't clean it automatically any more!

We put this unit on self clean and now it wont turn on nor open.

I had the same problem with a Superba wall oven. In my case, the bracket mount for the door lock warped due to the heat of the self clean cycle. We were able to open the door by inserting a coat hanger into the slight opening at the top of the door and sliding the lock lever to the left. It was a pretty easy self-repair - 1) turn off breaker 2) slide oven out 2-3" 3) remove oven front trim pieces 4) remove screws that mount control panel 5) this should give you access to the door lock mechanism.
good luck

Can we light a gas oven manually, it is a kitchenaid superba

No, You have to replace it. When the ignitor grows weak, it does not allow enough voltage through it to open the gas valve. Very common problem. Good Luck, Appliance Specialists

E1 and f5 error/Door locked

The E1- F5 error is a door lock error.

The control (TIMER) has likely failed in this instance - BUT...

Sometimes when you disconnect power to a range and reconnect it the electronic range control gets confused.
You should disconnect power again for 15 seconds and reconnect and see if that helps.

If it doesn't cure the E1- F5 error hold the bake button in until E0- F2 appears in the display.
This is the error for a stuck button on the keypad and is the way to clear the memory of the electronic range control.

Sometimes these work, but if the control has failed it won't make any difference.
