Take off the throat plate under the presser foot with a screw driver and really clean out your machine. You will probably be amazed at the lint and thread there. It almost resembles felt. I was shocked when my girlfriend showed me. Then lubricate as per your manual. PS I put my machine on a bath towel so that it is quieter.

Machine will not sew fast

Have you performed any recent cleaning and oiling? If not, that is probably the basis of your problem. The machine is seizing because the lubrication has dried and is preventing the parts from moving.

Consult your owner's manual, use ONLY fresh good quality sewing machine oil and apply 1-2 drops each place as instructed in the manual.

If your machine is mechanical, you can open the top and bobbin area, gently hand rotate the handwheel toward you, and watch where metal rubs on metal and apply 1-2 drops of oil each place. Do NOT oil plastic, belts, or decorator stitch cams. Then SLOWLY run your machine to get the oil distributed. It should loosen up after the machine has run for a few minutes.

You should oil the hook/shuttle every time you install a new bobbin, do a complete cleaning and oiling every 40 hours of sewing time or (if the machine is in storage) every 6 months.

Why is the bobbin thread looping and catching on my sewing machine? The stitches are uneven, too.

Hi Sylvia,
Your problem is an un-matched tension of the threads. You mentioned doing an adjustment recently. That is the problem area.
If your bobbin thread develops loops on the top side of the fabric, you need to tighten the bobbin tension.
There is no easy method for this and you will have to do it slowly -
tighten, test, re-tighten, test.... until you get a near perfect stitch.
I haven't come across a portable device specifically designed to set thread tensions.

Simplicity Fashion Pro Sewing machine problems. Machine stitches are too loose on the bottom of fabric.

try setting the top tension to 4 or 5 & see if the machine sews any better, you should see a nob or dial with numbers or alphetbet letters on it, that's normally on the left side of the machine
also try changing the needle, it's possible that it's bent or blunt
also clean under the needle plate & in the bobbin area for loose threads & lint

My bobbin is not sewing smoothly. It is pulling and causing a very rough stitch.

Rewind a bobbin, sounds like it is wound unevenly, remember don't speed when you are winding.

I've been doing a lot of sewing over the past week and now the bobbin area sounds really noisy -like metal rubbing. The stitching is fine it sounds terrible. Do I need to oil the machine, and if so, where...

Hi. Your machine is probably just dirty. Have you cleaned out the lint? It will build up in the bobbin area and cause all kinds of problems unless you clean it out. A small brush works wonders. Take out the bobbin and bobbin case and clean all that old lint out. At the same time you clean the machine, you should also oil it. Use regular sewing machine oil and put one drop in all the oil ports (see my photo of an oil port at robbiesews.blogspot.com). If you don't see the oil port, the old rule of thumb was one drop of oil wherever a metal part rubs against another metal part.

I clean and oil my machines after every 8 hours of sewing and I think that's pretty much what the manufacturers recommend, although some new machines are self-oiling. Check your manual to be sure. (Self-oiling machines still need the lint cleaned out regularly.)\

Hope this helps!

Why is my machine skipping stitches

this is caused by uneven winding of the bobbin, sometimes the spool of thread winds unevenly when it travels up and down the spool. the best solution i have found is to use small spools of thread when winding the bobbins

Husqvarna 2000 1974, uneven stitches

Take out the bobbin case, remove the bobbin. Using laquer thinner on a Q-tip or a thin rag, clean the center "hole" of the bobbin case. Then look at the post in the machine that the bobbin slides onto. Is there thread wrapped at the back of the post? Also clean the post with your cleaner. Once the post and the hole are clean, put a little sewing machine oil on your finger and wipe the post with it and the chattering noise of your bobbin will be gone.

Take the thread off the top of your machine, put in a new needle.
Turn your top tension to Zero and lift the presser foot, this will open the tension discs of your machine. Using a needle, scrape or clean the area between the discs. (Your needle also has a flat spot on the top of the needle, that faces the rear of your machine.) Also look for any rough edges in the hole of your presser foot or the hole in your needle plate. If there are any rough edges in the metal areas that your needle goes through, you would have poor stitching. Don't forget to put your tension dial back on the red dot before you sew.
