Question about Freezers

Open Question

I have a Kenmore 15.1 cubic ft. freezer model 24152 upright that is starting to ice up at the top. Could it be anything more than just the seal? And would 1068241521 be the model number I'm needing? The plate inside the freezer has Model no. as 8241521. There is no 106 at the beginning.

SOURCE: would like to download owners manual for 15 ft.

Although I can't find the exact model number you seek, all Kenmore manuals should be available from the following web site:

Hope this helps.

The lower hinge on each door may have a door closing cam. It raises the door up ¼ inch when opening and this assist in closing the door. If it’s wore out and doesn’t work the door may not seal and the gasket can be damaged. Watch the operation of the door to see if it rises up when opened.

Leave the door shut and let the magnetic gasket hold the door in place. Put something between the bottom of the door and the floor to hold it in case it slips.
Remove the bracket holding the pin and hinge assembly taking note of order of removal of parts. Slide new cams on. You probably need two.

symptoms you are describing are faulty door seals, try putting a thin piece of paper between door and frame to make sure doors are sealing, also when did you do a full manual defrost??(once a year even with auto defrost)

This is just a general answer but it may mean that the door seal is leaking. Try running a dollar bill under the seal to see if that area is looser than the rest of the door seal.
Look inside the freezer for model number.

Coil in top of freezer and top shelf in freezer have very large buildup of ice, melted it out but it soon froze back over

Good day,
I assume this is a conventional freezer, not a frost free model.
That condition is caused either by a loss of refrigerant or an internal restriction in the sealed system.
Both are, I'm afraid terminal, unless the machine is under 5 years of age, in which case it would be covered by factory warranty.

Top shelf ices over

This could be because of the thermostat not sensing when the fridge reaches its set temperature and as a result of this the compressor will keep on running and build-up of ice will occur.Second cause of the ice might be the door rubber seal not sealing propperly.

Hope this helped.

Upright freezer door inside developing ice

The door seal is at fault. Regardless of the small tear it is not sealing well.
Take a dollar bill and close it in the door. Then pull on the bill to feel resistance.
You will find it pulls easily in some place. That is where your air leak is that is causing the condensation.
Do this about every 6 inches all the way around the seal.
