The receiver doesn't have a "Phono" input. Is this a special cable or something?

This model requires a "Phono" input. This will give you the best sound. Once you hook it up correctly, make sure the volumn is down or you will blow the amp.

How do I hook up a tv to a Sony D311 receiver

The Sony STR-D311 only has analog audio inputs. If your TV has an analog audio output, use the appropriate RCA cable (2 M/M plugs on each end, usually red and white). If your TV has a headphone jack, use a 3.5 mm to RCA adapter. However, if your TV only has digital audio outputs, you will need a digital to analog audio converter, like this: https://www.amazon.com/Digital-Optical-Analog-audio-converter/dp/B004C4WPXA . You will also need the appropriate analog audio and digital audio cables.

The manual for the receiver is on the product support page: https://esupport.sony.com/US/p/model-find.pl?mdl=STRD311 . The direct link to the manual is currently https://docs.sony.com/release//STRD311.PDF .

I hope this helps.

Connecting a turntable to Sony STR K502P

Use RCA Cables from the TT to the Aux in on the Receiver. You may need to use a pre-amp inline from TT to Receiver.
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/ has a few.

Can I connect a passive subwoofer Sony SS-W581T to a SONY receiver STR-DH510 ? Thank you

No. Like most AVR's it only provides a Line Level output for an externally powered subwoofer. Get a separate amp for the sub.

Wenn I connect the coax cable the display show --------, and the Receiver can't detect the digital audio signal, even though I can mesure a PCM signal with the Osilloscope.

There is no sound from digital sources (from COAXIAL or OPTICAL input jack). • Check that the INPUT MODE is not set to "ANALOG" (page 52). • Check that the Analog Direct is not being used. • Check that the "A. ASSIGN" function is not used to reassign the audio input of another source to the selected input (page 53). • Set "ARC" to "ARC OFF" when no sound is output from TV OPTICAL IN jack during TV input (page 58).

I need to turn the volume knob to the MAXIMUM on my Sony STR-GX50ES receiver to get just a whisper of sound.

Possible that the preamp is faulty and so the power amp is not able to deliver the sound.
it will be good to check the input through to the power amplifier with a audio signal test, you can now confirm where the missing amplification is ,even start from power amp will be good enough.

Why can't I play a turntable through my "Sony str-de595

Turntables have a very low output level. Receivers with a phono input have a op-amp to boost the signal level.

What you can do: Check the turn table it may have a line level switch under the rubber mat, otherwise you can get a phono amp ($20-$40) to boost the signal. and input it to any unused input on the receiver.

Can I hook up a photo turntable to a sony str-de435 receiver? There aren't any jacks that specifically say phono, so I'm wondering if I can just hook it up to any of the audio jacks without any problem....

If your turntable has an amplified output, go ahead and plug it in to the aux port. If not, you won't be able to use it with your receiver properly. Look on the back (or front) of your turntable for a knob labeled "level" or "volume", and that will determine if it's amplified or not. Good luck, I hope this helps!
