Question about NetGear FS105 5x10/100 Mbps Networking Switch

1 Answer

No connection We purchased the FS105 ethernet switch and can not get printers to communicate with it. I believe it is the ethernet wall plug. We are able to use it for internet but when we hooked up the ethernet switch and connected the printers we have no communication. I even hooked 1 of the printers directly to the plug but it does not work. Does anyone know what needs to be done to the router to get this to work with our printers?

The printer needs an IP address from dhcp server or in other words, the router. the switch just acts as a kind of repeater on network segment.

the printer has to be connected to router via ethernet cable or if it's wireless, connected to the router subnet. e.g, if your router has IP = 192.168.1.1, then your printer should have address = 192.168.1.100.

you don't assign the address, the router does. if your printer has a menu button, scroll through the menu and search for network related settings and print them to check what IP address was assigned. Then from computer you want to print from you have to "Add Network printer" and use the IP address it has been assigned to connect over the network.

How do i fix after modem reset

Basically, you unplug all of the Netgear Xe104 units, wait a minute, then plug the one nearest to the Router back into a wall socket first. Wait a few seconds then plug in a second Xe104 and give it a minute to "talk" to the first unit. Then plug other Xe104's in one at a time. Below you'll find the official troubleshooting steps which you should read carefully if the basic steps above do not resolve the problem.
Also, i should tell you that Powerline adapters such as yours have improved greatly in the last few years, and you can buy a pair of new ones that are very, very much faster than yours for a very modest cost. For example, TP-LINK TL-PA4010KIT
or NETGEAR Powerline 500 1-Port Starter Kit (XAVB5201) or

Power Light Not On Make sure that, if power to the AC power outlet is controlled by a wall switch, the wall switch is in the on position. Verify that the wall socket is live by disconnecting the XE104 85 Mbps Wall-Plugged Ethernet Switch and plugging in some other electrical product, such as a lamp or a hairdryer. If the error persists and you have confirmed the power outlet you are using is live, you have a hardware problem and should contact technical support.
HomePlug Light Not On If the power light is on but the HomePlug light is not, check the following: • Make sure that power is being provided to more than one PowerLine device. Another PowerLine device must be installed for successful communication across the PowerLine. • Verify that the network password is the same on all devices in the PowerLine network.
Ethernet Light is Off • Make sure that the Ethernet cable is plugged in properly at both ends. • Be sure you are using the correct cable on the router that the first XE104 is connected to. When connecting the router's Internet port to a cable or DSL modem, use the cable that was supplied with the cable or DSL modem. This cable could be a standard straight-through Ethernet cable or an Ethernet crossover cable. • On attached Ethernet device or network adapter card, check that the Link light is

Can a dynex DX-ESW5 act as a print server?

No. You need a router to set / obtain an IP or connect it directly to the computer RS232 serial port. No network required, but is old school and may be difficult. Specially with MAC. You are better off getting a new router.

I am trying to set up a switch between my PS3 and my PC. I have an external DSL modem. I purchased a 5 port switch(Rosewill RC405-x) but no luck. Can I use an ethernet splitter instead?

You did not explainhaow you connected all your equipment together.
Connect your PC and PS3 into the 5 port switch.
Connect your DSL modem into the 5 port switch, if there is a WAN/internet port on the 5 port switch then connect the DSL model into this port.
You may need to power off the 5 port switch wait a 1 min and power up the 5 port switch again so it can setup an IP address table for the connected ports.
If this still does not work the replace the 5 port switch with a normal 5 port hub.

You don't need a driver for network switches -- you just need a driver for your Ethernet adapter in your computer.

Hi, you have to set up your printer as a device that can be communicated in your LAN by the two PCs.

To set up your printer properly in the LAN, you need to assign a fixed IP to this printer such that whenever it is switch on again, both PC still communicate to this printer without changing the new IP assigned to this printer.

You need to set up this fixed IP properly in your DLink router. For guidance please check this in your user manual of the Dlink. Please let me know any problem you may have again in future.

How to network two computers and one printer trough a netgear FS105 switch?

Connect your two computers to netgear swtich with Ethenret lan cable into LAN port.
Then set ip address in both computer in network adapter property same subnet mask and gateway ip is different .
Means if you give ip 192.168.1.10 to 1 computer you can give ip 192.168.1.11 to another computer.
Then both computer are in network.
Then if your printer is network printer then you can connect your printer with lan cable to switch then set ip ion printer same way.
But if you haven;t network printer then you can connect printer into 1 computer then share your printer in contol panel->printer and faxes if you use windows then right click on printer icn then click on share so you can use it in network.
Let me know if you need further assistance.
Thanks for using FixYa.

How do I connect to the router interface.I tried to enter 192.168.0.1 into the internet browser to no avail. I have both a Mac and a PC, but would prefer using the Mac as the main computer. Cheers Rod

Keep in mind that a switch is NOT a router. Switches merely distribute sugnals to other computers, but does NOT manage IP addresses. You can connect your modem to a router to a switch but if you connect the modem to the switch then you can not control the switch. Suggest you get a router instead of a switch.

Just to clarify, you have 4 computers connected to two ethernet switches. Two computers are connecteh to each ethernet switch and a network cable connecting the two ethernet switches 400ft apart.

For all the computers to communicate with each other, they all need to be in the same workgroup "name".
The cable joining the two ethernet switches need to be connected to the RJ45 UPLINK port on both the ethernet switches, and the uplink port may have a switch (the switch allows it to function as a standard RJ45 port or a RJ45 uplink port).
If there is no RJ45 uplink ports on the ethernet switches then a cross over network cable is needed to connect the ethernet switches together.
