Need to secure my router

Try the following procedure on a computer that's directly connected to one of the router ports with an ethernet cable. This procedure will not work if you're connected wirelessly. Open a web browser, such as Internet Explorer, and type in http:192.168.1.1. A window should pop up asking for a user name and a password. Don't enter a user name and type admin for the password. Hit ok. The router setup screen should come up. Click on the Wireless tab and then the Wireless Security sub-tab. You can set up encryption on your wireless network using this screen. First select the security mode you want to use. I believe WPA gives better security but I've had some trouble using it on older computers. I use WEP. I've been able to get this encryption scheme to work with all of my computers. Next select the type of encryption. I like 128 bit 26 hex digits. Next enter a pass phrase and hit generate. The pass phrase is like a password. It should now generate four 26 character keys made up of various letters and numbers. Write down the first key and make sure you've checked the 1 box for default transmit key. Save your setting and exit. You wireless network is now secure. If you try to connect to it using a wireless device you will be prompted for a security key. Depending on the operating system you're running, you may just be able to enter the pass phrase or you may need to enter the 26 character key you wrote down. You should only have to do this once for each of your wireless computers. After the first time the computer connects to the secured network it should automatically remember the security code. I hope this advice helps you out.

Trying to find password or key to set up netflix for wireless router netgear wgr614

To access the router:
1. Type http://www.routerlogin.net in the address field of your browser, and then click Enter.
2. When prompted, enter admin for the router user name and password for the router password,
both in lowercase letters. (For security reasons, the router has its own user name and
password.)
3. On the main menu, select Wireless Settings to display the Wireless Settings screen.
Note that the default SSID is NETGEAR.
4. You will now see your wireless Security Option and passphrase.

I am trying to connect a wireless ready Samsung blueray player to my Motorola Surfboad and it says to press the wps button on the surfboad, where is it?

NOTE: [] & "button(s)" represent features on the remote controller. {} & "key(s)" represent features in on-screen menus.
=======================================================================

ROUTER INFO: WPS is on the SBG901.

BLU-RAY DISK PLAYER: You did not mention the model # of the Samsung Blu-ray disc player, so this information is somewhat generalized.

PREREQUISITE: Once you have attached Samsung's proprietary wireless adapter to that Blu-ray player, have connected that Blu-ray player to your TV, & have powered on that router & Blu-ray player & TV, access that Blu-ray player's initial settings menu.

STEP ONE: From the Home menu, press ?? buttons to select "Settings." Press [ENTER].
STEP TWO: Press ?? buttons to select "Network." Press [ENTER].
STEP THREE: Press ?? buttons to select "Network Settings." Press [ENTER].
STEP FOUR: Press ?? buttons to select "Network Type." Press [ENTER].
STEP FIVE: Instead of using the the "PBC (WPS)" selection, press ?? buttons to choose the "Wireless" selection & press [ENTER].
STEP SIX: Press ?? buttons to select "Internet Protocol Setup." Press [ENTER].
STEP SEVEN: Press ?? buttons to select "Auto" or "Manual." Press [ENTER].

IF SETTING UP WIRELESS CONNECTIVITY VIA AUTO NETWORK SEARCH: If you selected "Auto," press the ? button to go to "Access Point Selection." Press [ENTER]. Upon searching for available wireless networks, it will display those choices in a list.
A.) In the list of networks, press ?? buttons to select your network. Press [ENTER].
B.) IF "PIN/Security" DOES NOT POP UP, THEN SKIP THIS STEP; otherwise, press ?? buttons to select PIN or Security (Security Key--the usual option), & enter your network's Pass Phrase on the Security screen. (This Pass Phrase would be what you would use to access the network. IT SHOULD NOT THE PASSWORD WITH WHICH YOU SET UP YOUR ROUTER!)
Press number buttons on the remote to enter Pass Phrase numbers OR use arrow buttons on the remote to move from key to key in the Security Key screen. Change the type of on-screen accessible characters by moving to the on-screen {a/A/1/?} key & pressing [ENTER] on the remote. (The character set changes with each press of [ENTER]. Once displayed on the screen, you can enter a letter by pressing the number button on the remote which corresponds to that letter key. Pressing that button repeatedly changes the letter. You can move to {Delete} & press [ENTER] in order to remove the last character entered. You can move to {Clear} & press [ENTER] to clear all entered characters (or just press the red [(A)] button. When done, press the yellow [(C)} button (or the {Done} key followed by [ENTER]).
C.) WAIT UNTIL THE CONNECTION CONFIRMATION MESSAGE DISPLAYS & THEN PRESS [ENTER]. You're back at the Network Selection menu.
D.) To test the connection, press ? to select "Network Test." Press [ENTER].

IF YOU REQUIRE ASSISTANCE WITH SETTING UP THE WIRELESS NETWORK CONNECTION MANUALLY, I SUGGEST THAT YOU READ THE MANUAL (http://www.samsung.com/us/support/).

I need the security code for my kenwood cd player model kdc-722

Common Kenwood Security Codes
Many Kenwood radios are configured with the same security codes:

KCAR - This seems to be a "backdoor" to some Kenwood models.
3051 - This is the security code which is printed in the manual of many Kenwood models.
1234 - This is a security code commonly chosen by Kenwood owners.
Entering Your Kenwood Security Code
If the car battery fails or is disconnected, the Kenwood will ask for the security code.

The procedure to enter your security code differs on various models of Kenwood car stereos. Here are three of the more common procedures:

Type 1
During the code request mode, while holding the DISP key depressed, press and hold the Volume UP or DOWN key for 3 seconds until the "..." display disappears.
Enter the security code using your Kenwood remote.
Type 2
Press the "Auto" button and "Track up" on the face of radio at the same time until the four dash lines disappear.
Enter the security code using your Kenwood remote.
Type 3: Model# DPX-4020 and DPX-4030
Press and hold the 1 then the 6 preset keys until the display shows the letter 'C'.
Enter the security code using your Kenwood remote.
Entering Letters on your Kenwood Remote
To enter a letter using your Kenwood remote, press a button once for the first letter, twice for the second letter, and three times for the third letter -- then press the Track Up or Next Track key to send the letter.

To send the letter 'A', press the 2 key once and then press the Track Up key. To send the letter 'B', press the 2 key twice and then press the Track up key.

Finally, when you are done entering all of the letters, press and hold the Track Up button for 3 seconds.

The key sequence to enter the security code KCAR is:

5
5
Track Up
2
2
2
Track Up
2
Track Up
7
7
Track Up
Your Kenwood should then enter tuner mode.

A Security Code Bug in some Kenwoods
There is a reported bug in the security code handling of some Kenwood stereos. In models with thie bug, the security code is stored incorrectly. The workaround is to enter the wrong security code.

In models with this bug, you have to decrement the third character of the security code by one. If your security code was 1111, you would enter your security code as 1101. If your security code was 9999, you would enter 9989.

Wireless is not secure

Examples:
Authentication type:WEP WEP
Type: Open
System Mode: Hex WEP

Note: For WEP you can choose ASCII or HEX modes.
64bit ASCII = 5 digit ASCII key.
64bit HEX = 10 digit HEX key. (Can only use letters A~F and numbers)
128bit ASCII = 13 digit ASCII key.
128bit HEX = 26 digit HEX key. (Can only use letters A~F and numbers)
You can also choose WPA

Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) is becoming the wireless security standard. It is a higher level of security than WEP that combines encryption and authentication to create an unbreakable level of protection. For small office and home users the WPA preshared key (WPA-PSK) is the easiest set up and does not involve a Certificate Authority Server, which is recommended for small and large business customers. Once the preshared key is set-up on each network device, every packet sent over the wireless network will receive its own encryption key under the Temporal Key Integrity Protocol (TKIP). A key benefit to WPA is that it is backward compatible with WEP-only devices. For those users looking to ensure those who share keys are who they claim to be a Certificate Authority Server or RADIUS Server can be added. This requires a more complicated set-up and is not recommended for smaller networks. Also, one thing to note is that WPA adds to the packet size, typical transmissions will take longer.'); return false">WPA
-PSK. The key must be between 8~64 digits.

Wireless internet to pc

if you have secured the router you should have used atleast either wep or wpa, changing the channel is just for interference problems. when you use wep encryption for example you will need to type in a pasword and the router will generate a pass phrase which will be a hex 8 digit and letter mixture which is the code that you will have to enter into each pc's wireless network card. If you are using windows wireless zero configuration (WZC) a selection of wireless connections will appear within your range and then when you connect to your network a window will pop up and ask you to enter the numbers and letters that the router generated, this will have to be re entered and the wireless connection will connect. If you are using the software that came with the wireless cards this will be a similair proceedure but will probably use their own wizard. Your wired connection will work without you needing a password because it's not wireless and therefore has no need for a security password.
