Hi , you can connect 6 Ohms speakers to your receiver but you will have to increase the volume due to extra demand from the speaker . This does not arm your receiver at all as long its kept well ventilated to cool it down . All speakers do have different ohms which can vary from 1 to 8 ohms . the higher the number of ohms the lower volume demand from the speaker

The volume of my model's volume only goes up to 40...is there a way to increase the volume?

Sometimes you can connect a lower ohm speakers. However you must NOT go lower than the amp can take. For example if the amp has 8ohm as the lowest for it you can go to 8ohm speakers, if it has 16ohm speakers connected, but must connect 6ohm speakers. If the amp allows 6ohm than you can connect 6ohm speakers. Changing from higher level speakers to lower level ones will make the volume louder. But you must not connect ones lower than the rating of the amp.
The only other way is if there is something wrong with the amp and that it won't go higher due to a fault.

How do I connect a set of Pioneer 6ohm, 50w speakers to a DP42SM?

If the Pioneer speakers are of the active type (built in amplifier), you can connect them to the left an right analog audio outputs of your TV. If the Pioneers are passive speakers, you need to connect them to an amplifier/receiver first and then use an interlink cable to connect amp/receiver to your TV.

I would be grateful if anyone could advise me here. A pair of Mission MS70C2 8ohm speakers I am considering buying....Would these be ok to use as 2 higher up speakers with my Mission 7.1 (All 6ohm) set up,...

I don't think it will make any difference for your amplifier when you use 8 Ohm in stead of 6 Ohm. These impedance is measured on one frequency and will differ all over the audio spectrum. It could be a problem, if you try to connect 1 or 2 Ohm speakers, because they could ask a to much of a current. but don't be afraid to put these to your amp.

M70 speaker

8 Ohm refers to the nominal impedance of the whole speaker. How would you 'use' 4 or 6 Ohm? Any modern amp should be able to handle 8 Ohm. The M70 have relatively low sensitivity, and require more output-power for high sound-volume.

Any difference sound if set imperdance to 6ohm?

Hello
As impedence of the speaker go low, output from it will be more, but quality will be less. You can use upto 4OHms impedence speaker, in place of a 6Ohms. Using speakers less than this impedence, will make the amp to overload and heat up considerably. Most of the Yamaha amps are designed to use 6OHms speaker with them. OK.

I have Cerwin-Vega speakers that are 4 ohms, what do I set the impedance at?

You can set the speaker impedance in the Advanced menu. See page 45 of english manual (it can be on different page in other language manual).
In standby mode, on the receiver (not on remote!) press STANDBY/ON while pressing and holding STRAIGHT button. THe "ADVANCED SETUP" should show in the LCD display. Now use PROGRAM +/- buttons to navigate the menu. Select "SP IMP." which is speaker impedance setting. Press STRAIGHT to select the correct value. Options are 6ohm and 8ohm. 6ohm setting means 6 and less, so select this option. Now you can turn the unit off by using STANDBY/ON. Now when you turn it on again, it will use these new settings.

6 ohn wharfedale speakers on an 8 ohm TEAC amp (both old) - will that work

Yes. Most if not all speakers have impedances which vary with frequency and are rated at a nominal or average impedance. So a manufacturer who rates their speakers at 6 ohms may be more honest or chooses to quote it at a specific frequency. So a nominal 8 ohm speaker may actually measure 4 ohms at 100Hz and 12 ohms at 500Hz but averages somewhere nearer 8 ohms. It is normal for most speaker manufacturers to simplify their ratings so speakers which average at say 6 ohms would be categorised as 8 ohm, and 4.9 ohm averaged speakers as 4 ohms.

As a point of interest - some amplifiers are specified as providing their maximum power at impedances of 6 ohms, and there fore some speaker makers (including those made by same manufacurer as amplifier) will rate their speakers at 6 ohms so they appear more compatible.

Can you run 200watt 6ohm speakers on the RX-V490

Hi I have just read the specs on about your Yamaha system and you cant run 6 ohm speakers to your amp. You have to impedance match the speakers and the amp otherwise the speakers will "blow". So you need some 8 ohm speakers, the wattage of the speakers doesn't particularly matter as long as they are not too weak or too powerful becasue the amp will drive the speakers no matter what but if the speakers are of a low wattage then the amp could blow the speakers if it is turned up too loud. The specs of your amp are given in the link below.

8omh reciever and 6omh speaker

HI,in the speaker set up menu on your amp there should be a 6ohm setting but if not don,t worry as it won,t cause any problems. You will have to set the levels for your speakers so they match each other to keep sound right.

HOPE THIS HELPS.
