I have the Western Digital My Book Essential Edition 250GB External Hard Drive. I have moved and lost the power cord. I purchased the DYNEX 500ma Universal AC Adapter as a replacement. When I plug the...

I don't have a photo of the AC adapter, but if you look on it the Voltage and Amperage specifications are;

Input: 100-240VAC / 50~60Hz
Output: 12VDC / 2A

This means the Input power can be from 100 volts to 240 Volts AC, and at 50 to 60 Hertz

The Output power is 12 Volts DC at no more than 2 Amp's. (Amperes)

Asian Power Devices Inc. has a model DA-24B12 that fits these specs.
Also a Wattac AC adapter model number - BAO362Zl-8-A01 will work.

Otherwise just use a 12 Volt, 2 Amp power pack, with a positive on center contact, and a 2mm pin hole

Used wrong AC Adaptor on hp Media Drive.

I guess there's a standard hardrive inside the box - take it out, and mount it in a computer or a new box?

Try checking your power cord adapter.
I found the same problem was with the cord.
Luckily, I had another Acomdata HD cord to check the problem.

My Computer doesn't recognize Ion 320 GB Harddrive

Well if its lighting up, then the drive is receiving power, or the enclosure atleast. Forget that case, extract the drive, and seek out something more reliable and more solid. Preferably an aluminum enclosure with no fan.

seek out Weibetech.

My Computer doesn't recognize Ion 320 GB Harddrive w/Tri select

This isn't a solution but might help...

I have the same drive... with mine it recognizes sometimes but usually freezes my computer when I try to write to the drive. I thought it was the actual hard drive, but that works fine when installed in my tower... I now notice that one of the small components, component L14, is actullay missing a corner!!!! Like it chipped off! I'm blaming that. It seems to be part of the usb/firewire section of the mainboard. I'd like to replace it... does anyone know what that component is?
