Question about Microsoft Windows XP Professional With Servise Pack 2 (e8503040) for PC
You should download the audio drivers for Windows XP from the computer manufacturer's website or from the motherboard manufacturer's site. If yours is a name-brand computer (Dell, HP, etc.), get the drivers from them. These companies often have custom versions of hardware made for them, and their drivers are the ones intended.
Reinstall those drivers and your sound should work again.
