Try reseating the memory. Open up the memory compartment on the bottom of your laptop. Remove both (I assume you have two) and replace. Make sure each is seated snugly.

Check ther are no stuck keys on the laptop. Power off, run the palm of your hand over the keyboard and see they all bounce back freely

Whenever electronics devices give high pitched beep, it generall means a future failure . There could be reasons for the same.
1. Static built up on the motherboard

Troubleshooting 1 :
1. Diconnect all the wires from the tower, including the power cable. Press and hold the power button in the front to remove any static from the motherboard.

A long high pitched beep after turning on the cpu. what is the problem sires?

Welcome to Fixya

Beep codes usually tells us that there is something wrong with the computer. 1 long beep tells us that there is a problem with the video card or memory module. But this should accompany whit short beeps. Could you verify further how many beeps are you getting there. Here's the link for the beep codes for your reference.

Please let me know if you have further questions.

The beep is a code to tell you what is wrong. POST - Power on Self Test. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Power-on_self-test You can serach the web for more detail as well. Usually memory has popped loose or a connection is not seated fully.

How would you know high limit thermostat is defective. need to know before ordering part

Hi, you'll need a ohm tester (multi-tester) you will have to remove / disconnect wires from hi-limit, in normal room temperature, place tester lead on terminals where you remove wires, if you get a beep/continuity, hi-limit is o/k, if no beep/continuity, hi-limit faulty, for further test you can heat up hi-limit, (oven) and check with tester, hi-limit switch off when temperature gets to high, and switch on when temperature drops, so at room temperature hi-limit should be on, (hear beep on tester), if there's no beep/continuity at room temperature, high-limit is faulty. disconnect power before doing any repairs, good luck.

High pitch screech w/no signal

is this a picture tube type of tv? big in back? If so, it could be the tube/circuit short.

If it flatpanel, it could be a bad capacitor in the DM or "Y" board or even possibly faulty power supply. Further testing will be necessary
