There are many places to get enclosures for hard drives. I would recommend looking for a USB 3.0 (the new standard for hi-speed USB, and backward compatible) interface, and for an enclosure that includes an active cooling fan.

Otherwise, it's take your pick.

Hope that's helpful.

Thermaltake has a model Max 5G that's USB 3.0 with dual 80mm cooling fans. Radioshack normally stocks it on line only, but is currently out of stock. Here's the mfr link:

I am about to take a WD1600JD hardrive out of one PC and put into a newer PC as a slave hardrive. What should the poistion of the jumper be. Thanks

This is a SATA drive, and they don't use master and slave jumpers. They are serial devices, and each SATA drive is connected to its own motherboard connector. The master and slave jumpers are only on the parallel interface drives (with the wide data cable), since two drives could be used on the same motherboard controller. All you need to do is install the drive, plug in the power and data cables, and Windows will assign the drive a new letter.

Hi,

The best option would be to purchase an external enclosure for your hard drive. Once inserted and connected to the enclosure you will be able to connect your hard drive to your pc/mac via a usb cable.

Hope this helps!!

It would cost just as much to purchase a "SERILLEL" adapter as it would cost to purchase another "empty" external hard-drive case that has support for the newer-style 'SATA' hard-drive.

If you have a newer desktop-computer, you probably have an unused SATA port on your motherboard, and an unused SATA power-connector. Temporarily connect the SATA drive to your motherboard, and do the recovery.

Can I use a WD1600 as slave drive and Maxtor 6Y200P0 as master? If I can what are setting on Wd1600.

You just need to put a jumper on the pins on the side of the hard drive that is marked on the label to SLAVE, then connect it to the ribbon and power.
