Recently moved----house has Jenn-Air slide in range mfg 16 years ago---no
idea how many years in use, but stove doesn't heat properly---will heat but
not hot enough. Don't want to spend a bundle on it since it's so old. Only
thing I can think of is low current. Could a breaker cause this? Or maybe
the elements could be defective. Any ideas???

I had a Jenn-Air of the same vintage (I don't know where they got their
reputation for quality). I found two causes of low or no heating:
1. The elements weren't firmly seated - sometimes I could fix it by
pulling the elements out and reseating them. Spreading the two contacts
of the element and/or wiggling would often fix it.
2. I also found that the flat plug contacts for the two-burner modules
(the whole assemebly lifts out) had arced and become pitted. On one, I
was able to fix it by filing it smooth and then sanding with carbide
paper. The other was too far gone, and I had to replace the plug and the
socket it plugged into.
