Question about Canon PowerShot S230 / IXUS 179 Digital Camera

Camera will not focus, image gets completely screwed up

I have had one of these for several years, and suddenly after recharging the battery the camera would not focus on anything - the image on the screen jumps arround and photos taken with it hardly resemble the object intended, for example, if i take a photo in my lounge the chairs will be made skewed, the rug will look like mountains and the skirting boards will look like they are sinking into the floor... all after recharging the battery!

please someone help!

I have the same issue. I just bought a new battery because my old battery was not holding a charge for long. I arrived in Nigeria for a trip yesterday and charged both batteries. This morning, I could not get any resolution through the view finder or, apparently, on photos I have taken. Note that the camera worked fine yesterday morning. Any ideas on how to fix this? If you have any ways that I can do it myself, that would be great, as I would like to be able to take some photos while on my trip.

My Olympus Stylus 7030 won't focus and shuts off when I try to zoom.

If the rechargeable battery is more than 3 - 4 years old then the battery could be worn out.Rechargeable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cycles andwill lose their charge capacity over time, i.e. won't charge to 100% andgradually the charge reduces until the battery won't charge up at all. OR Thebattery shows a 100% charge but when the adapter is disconnected the batterydrops off to zero capacity in a very short time. If the battery drops to anunacceptable charge level then the battery needs to be replaced.

Nikon d3100 taking blank images

The problem could be the imaging sensor in the lens housing, this will require a camera technician to find the extent of repair that is needed.

Hi! i have a cannon ixus digital camera. It got wet about a year ago when i was at the beach, now the problem is every things okay except when i capture a photo nothing appears on the screen no image at...

Try and press the display button (on Ixus a square with a right pointing arrow) several times to see if your images appear at any time.

Your problem may be as simple as inadvertenly pressing this button into the off mode.

If that does not work, try to recharge your battery, reinsert it and turn the camera on again to test your LCD screen.

Since you haven't descibed any error codes coming up on your camera, I suppose it isn't that bad.

If this does not help you may have to get your camera repaired.

Good luck

Flash

Are you still using alkaline batteries? If so, alkaline batteries just don't have the power for more than a few pics in a digital camera. Some may even have problems just powering startup of the camera or charging the flash. Digital cameras for the most part should only be used with rechargeable NiMH batteries. Retailers sells these for around $7 for a package of four (about $15-19 for the batteries with charger). Keep in mind they'll save you big bucks in the long run over alkalines, AND they'll last for at least 100 pictures per charge (and probably many many more). You'll be very pleased with their performance, and may slap yourself for not buying them sooner. When at the store, look on the package for a power rating of at least 2500 mah.

Black screen coolpix S1

September 9, 2007 3:56 PM 39 thumbs-up.png 1 thumbs-down.png Hi, Please forget the above findings of mine. I just realized that it is a feature of the camera when it fails to focus on an subject for consecutive 5 times, the lens will intialize itself and out put on screen a message: INITIALIZING LENS CANNOT FOCUS.

I just got the camera defective like conditions of yours. Tried to find help on the web and came across this site while testing on the black screen camera for not more than 45 minutes.

I have the instruction manual, but never flipped a page on it yet. So how the heck do I know about that 5 times things on focus as mentioned above. BECAUSE I got the stupid camera working right now with the real time image on the screen.

If you want to follow my way to try fixing it yourself, keep reading and do it at your own risk. You paid several hundread dollars for the camera and I just paid $20 for it. Therefore, I tried everything I can to make it work, even if I had to open the camera body to play with the inside. Fortunately, it was not neccessary to take it apart.

Once again, AT YOUR OWN RISK to follow my way to get back your real time image screen.
Read the following steps once and make sure you understand before action.

(1) Load your camera with a freashly recharged battery.
(2) Switch on to see if it's working and still without the real time screen.
(3) Switch it off, and hold it tight in you palm with the LCD facing inward.
(4) Now, with you palm up, you should be able to see the model name 'CoolPix S6' under the lens and the flash.
(5) While holding the camera and aiming at the 'CoolPix S6', raise your other hand with the fist next to your ear.
(6) Match the aim as describe in(4) to the aim of your elbow 's protruded part and make pratice moves. Yes, you'are going to smack it
to your elbow.
(7) When you are ready, try first not to hit your elbow too hard once.
(8) Switch the camera on to check. If you have the 'Screen' now, congratulation! If not, repeat (4) to (8) but with a stronger impact
Force. You might have to try more times until your elbow could not take the sore.

I got mine fixed by performing the above steps just once, but I started at a medium impact force. Before this fix, I tried to whack it on both sides, the top and the bottom to my knee cap.

Why I chose knee cap and elbow? They hurt if you strike too hard. The target is to apply enough impact force to shake but not break the parts inside the camera.

Good Luck!!

Lens Error Message

Hi there

I had the same problem a year after I bought my camera. I returned it to Nikon and they fixed it and returned it. The problem reoccurred 3 times and each times Nikon repaired it free of charge. Then after a year it went again and, when I returned it to Nikon they sent me a new camera. Within a couple of months the new camera had the same problem. I have since resolved it with new batteries! The original coolpix rechargeable batteries do not seem to recharge properly so when I put ordinary AA batteries in it suddenly worked. Good luck.
