Hi,
I have had four, yes four, of these machines all do the same thing. We think it is related to storage in cold weather, but all the machines have been left in properties with no heating. Best bet is to contact the experts: http://www.nespresso.com/uk/en/pages/coffee-machine-repair-service

No water coming through coffee filter. I have descaled twice. You can hear the pump but no water and then it goes quite with no water. I have tried to prime the pump but still does not work. The steamer is...

If you open the steam tap while the pump is running does water come out? if so then you might have a blockage in the coffee solenoid or the bottom of the boiler. Do you hear a 'click' sound when you hit the coffee switch? If not the coffee solenoid may not be operating. The most common cause of the problem you are having though, is scale flaking off the boiler walls causing a blockage where the coffee water comes out. Try hiting the coffee switch, opening the steamer and then if water starts pumping out, close the steamer and see if water starts flowing out the coffee group. Do this without the portafilter (coffee holder) in place.
If you do get water flowing trough the group, try backwashing the machine.
If these things dont help then you should take it to an authorised repairer or open up the boiler yourself if you are a handy person and have access spare parts. Good luck, these machines can make a great espresso when in the right hands and working order.

My machine seems to be set on ventiate. it wil dispense hot water but that's it.

Having read the other reviews here, I was prepared for the cryptic "VENTILATE" message. (The manual refers to this procedure as "Loading the circuit", which doesn't help to clarify things.) Of course this refers to what Americans would call "priming" the machine. As mentioned in another review, there is a plastic hand pump supplied for priming, but that is only needed in the event that the electric pump fails to self-prime. All I had to do (following the quick-start instructions) was to select the Hot Water function; the internal pump quickly primed itself. I hope this helps , Lee Davidian

No water getting through to the coffee holder

If the machine is making very load noise while trying to make coffee ie. water to grinds or steamer this is more than likely a pump problem.

Have you professionally cleaned the grinder ( + burrs)? To do this, would have to open the machine, remove the burrs, & clean them.

Pump doesn't pump

Yes, it is called descaling. Use a descaling solution, or vinegar and water, and follow the procedure for flushing your machine. After that, re flush it with plain water- nothing worse than vinegary coffee!

Increasing water flow rate

Back-flush the machine regularly and check your water hookup and make sure you to not have a small diameter water line. Other than that it is controlled by the water pump I believe. If the solenoid (the silver thing attached to the pump) used to start the pump is old it could slow down the pump start cycle.
